QuickBooks is undergoing a transformation! We've seen a lot of changes since we first started using it in DOS, and after they migrated to Windows, I obtained my ProAdvisor certification, which I've held on and off for 20 years. In December QBs announced they are discontinuing their desktop product but will honor those on their current subscription, they really want to see everyone moved to their online platform. Although we have clients using QuickBooks Online, we cannot recommend it due to the numerous errors in the product we have seen. In January we started moving all of our clients onto our new product and while change is hard we are finding things to have a lot of positives. So here is to new adventures in 2024!

Quickbooks desktop payroll is having issues with their direct deposit. Payroll will lock up or error out. The entire system is down and the updates to QBs are not working either.

From the IRS regarding those who haven’t filed taxes in the past two years:
By early next week we will have specific information available about how people can go online to provide information (others could file an informational “zero” return) and, if they also provide banking information, they could receive their Economic Impact Payment quickly by direct deposit. Others, would receive a paper check.

2020 - New W-4 forms for employees and $12/hour minimum wage.
Let us know if you need assistance in meeting new requirements.
Colorado’s new sales tax regulations have delayed enforcement until May 31, 2019.
I know many of my clients have been struggling with the new sales tax regulations, the burden on business owners is enormous. There are 683 tax rates in Colorado and within each zip code there are different rates. In addition there are 71 home ruled cities with different regulations. Many business owners are discussing if they want to cut back on their service areas or even sell their business. There is discussion of pushing for a single tax rate for the entire state, I can see many pros and cons with going that direction but for business owners it could be a saving grace.
Remember, this delay of enforcement is NOT a change in the requirement, the state is trying to give business owners more time to work out compliance. Also, this delay is NOT the City of Alamosa or any other home ruled city, they have their own regulations.
