The Police Rare Radio 12" Promo Vinyl Records β€” cut for radio, built for sound quality.

So this is a bit of a geeky vinyl records post for those that are curious about vinyl records and maybe a bit of their history. Now, I haven't seen very many posts, maybe none at all talking about 12" radio promo singles, which is what these are.

There's only one band that I ever collected these of, and that's The Police. And that's because Stewart Copeland was the reason I became a drummer, and I basically collected anything and everything I could of The Police back in the day, including these guys.

These were pressed and mastered by the record labels to be sent to radio stations for airplay.

The first thing I remember noticing, look at how wide the vinyl track is. It's more than half the record. There are certain limitations and compromises that happen when you put 4 or 5 songs on a side of an album, but if it's one song you have those wide grooves which actually sound a bit better. I was surprised about this. I didn't know technically what the difference was. I just knew that these sounded better than the vinyl albums, so I collected them all.

- Message In A Bottle and it has a live version and a B-side called landlord.

- When the World is Running Down You Make The Best Of What's Still Around / Voices Inside My Head

- I Burn For You / Only You which were on the Brimstone and Treacle soundtrack

- Wrapped around your finger (album version, live version, and Murder by Numbers and Someone To Talk To)

And look at that $2.99 - Actually a so-called sealed copy of that same one. Now, I don't think that these things were sealed when they were released, but, you know, buying this at a place called Music Market in Orange County, I think that they did this

- Too Much information and my one of my favorite police tracks, One World

- Spirits In The Material World and Secret Journey.
the Ghost Machine logo on this

- I Advanced Masked by Andy Summers and Robert Fripp.

I'm curious to know who else might have any experience with these. I may have to do a little A/B comparison of these. I haven't done it myself in a long time, but I might consider that. So let me know what you guys think.

Occasionally, during a mastering project, clients ask me how the gain-staging process occurs. In such cases, an explanation over texting isn't as adequate as an audible explanation with a side benefit of a micro tour of their session with us.
