First 5 is deeply grateful for the tireless work of early childhood educators, teachers, and staff on Teachers’ Appreciation Day. Their commitment often goes far beyond the classroom as they nurture students’ development and instill a lifelong love of learning.

Thank you to Alameda County teachers for laying the groundwork for children’s success. Join us in sharing your gratitude with a teacher by sending a simple note or taking a moment to say thank you! 💐

Today, our Help Me Grow 🌼 program held a Connection Cafe event to facilitate networking and peer-to-peer learning for service providers who work with children and families. Events like these help build stronger and more coordinated systems and foster a shared understanding of early child development among family-serving providers.

Thank you to all who attended - we loved seeing so many friendly faces this morning! 🙌

📚 Día de Los Libros commits to linking children and their families to diverse books, languages, and cultures. This means every story time is bilingual!

Nick read two very fun stories in Mandarin, followed by a bookmark making contest, and a book giveaway. 👩‍🎨 🎨

What languages is your little one learning?

The goals of Día de Los Libros are to:

📚 Celebrate children and connect them to the world of learning through books, stories and libraries.

🏡 Nurture cognitive and literacy development in ways that honor and embrace a child’s home language and culture.

🌱 Introduce families to community resources that provide opportunities for learning through multiple literacies.

💪 Recognize and respect culture, heritage and language as powerful tools for strengthening families and communities.

Grateful to partner with Alameda County Library to host story time at Newark Library!

Happy Earth Day! 🌍 This year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” highlights the important role each of us plays in protecting the world our children will inherit.

At First 5 Alameda County, we are committed to supporting young children and families in building healthy, sustainable futures. By encouraging eco-friendly habits early in life, we help lay the foundation for a lifelong connection to caring for the environment. Through the programs and resources we support, families can nurture not only their children’s growth and well-being, but also a deeper appreciation for the planet we all share. 💚

This week is Black Maternal Health Week 🩺 a time to uplift the leadership, resilience, and expertise of Black women and birthing people and focus on how we can help build systems where Black families can thrive.

At First 5 Alameda County, equity is at the heart of our work. Through our Parent Partnership strategy, we fund and support community-based organizations led by Black women that center Black moms and their families. We are proud to work with our partners to advance solutions that honor, support, and celebrate Black moms every day 💙.

The Week of the Young Child recognizes the importance of high-quality early childhood education and educators. Decades of research show that the period from birth to age 5 is the most critical for a child’s future. Children’s success and readiness as they begin school can predict how they do in school later on, and throughout the rest of their lives.

First 5 Alameda is committed to evolving Alameda County’s early childhood system and strengthening support for children, families, educators, and communities. As we mark the Week of the Young Child’s 55th anniversary, we encourage you to check out daily themes and activities that you can do with your little ones at home or in the classroom: https://www.naeyc.org/events/woyc/daily-themes
