The Department provides fire suppression services, advanced life support emergency medical care, technical rescue services, fire code inspections, and a wide variety of public education programs. Congratulations to AFD Firefighter of the Year Chad Trautwein for being recognized at today's Public Safety Awards Luncheon presented by The Shelby County Chamber!
πLt. Trautwein has more than 20 years of service with the AFD and was honored for his work mentoring his peers (particularly the city's newer firefighters) and for his dedication to maintaining the department's rigorous training program.

First Friday spotlight-- Firefighter/Paramedic Taylon Simpson, assigned to Firehouse 3, C Shift.
Simpson started in the fire service in 2017 and joined Alabaster Fire in 2024. He's built an impressive resume along the way, holding more than 20 nationally accredited certifications, including HazMat Technician, Live Fire Instructor, and Rescue Technician for both surface and swift water.
He loves this job, and it shows in everything he touches. No task is too small to do right, and that kind of pride is contagious to everyone around him.
We're proud to have Taylon Simpson on our team. Thank you for what you bring to Alabaster Fire.
