Coventry Fire Department

On February 5, 2015, divers and support staff from Coventry, Green and New Franklin spent the morning practicing their under the ice dive rescue skills as part of the. In this black and white shot you can see the dark triangle that has been cut in the ice. This is the only way in and the only way out. Observe the rope extending into the water (held by the team member on the left); there is a diver on the other end of this rope swimming a search pattern. The team member on the right is the safety diver ready to go in to the water the wind chill is - 4.

Good morning, on 11-24 Coventry firefighters braved the wind and rain to collect food for the Lockwood United Methodist church food bank. This event was a huge success.. With the gracious help of Acme fresh markets and the overwhelming outpouring of support we received from the residents of this community,we were able to fill 3 fire trucks. We delivered over 15 shopping carts of food and clothing, along with close to 500 dollars in food gift cards to give local families a chance to have holiday meals.
Coventry firefighters would like to give our heartfelt thanks to all who donated, acme, and the Lockwood church food bank who came together to give back to Coventry Township, and portage lakes communities. We are so fortunate to be a part of something so uplifting.

Coventry Firefighters enjoyed teaching a fire safety class for Hope Lutheran Preschool students last week. Topics covered with the children included stop drop and roll, home fire safety, what to do during a fire, and how to call 911.

Coventry firefighters train on firefighting water supply and pump operations. Not all of Coventry has fire hydrants and we depend on water tenders (fire trucks with larger water tanks) to provide water. Firefighters use daily training to stay proficient all all required tasks used during emergency alarms.

On September 4, 2014, Coventry Fire participated in water rescue and dive training at the Portage Lakes State Park Beach. Coventry Fire is a member of the South Summit Water Rescue Team along with the New Franklin and Green Fire Departments.

Coventry Fire Revived a Family Pet!

After a residential fire was extinguished on the morning of April 14, 2014, Rufus the family's two year old pet dog was found unresponsive and barely breathing. Firefighters used a pet oxygen mask (donated by Invisible Fence) to resuscitate Rufus. Following 15 minutes of oxygen administration, Rufus was taken to a veterinarian for further evaluation was released the same day. Rufus's family was found to be safely out of the structure prior to fire department arrival.
