-------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, at approximately 3:30 am, a water main break occurred on an 8 inch main on Falcon Ct. at Raceside Dr. The break caused reduced water pressures resulting in a number of low pressure and no-water complaints for nearly 325 Akron water customers located in the Portage Lakes area. The break was isolated at 7:00 am and the pressure is now back to normal. Repairs should be completed by late afternoon.

As a precaution, the City of Akron Water Supply Bureau has issued a boil water advisory for all customers on the following streets:

Portage Point Blvd.: from Portage Lakes Dr. to the dead end

All customers within this area are advised to boil their water until further notice. Water used for drinking or cooking should be brought to a full boil for a minimum of 2 minutes and returned to the proper temperature before use. This advisory will be in effect until further notice, but for a minimum of 18 to 24 hours after the repair is made and normal pressures are restored.

A press release will be issued when the boil water advisory is lifted. Please contact the Akron 24/7 Water Distribution Dispatch at 330-375-2420 for further updates. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/4xTYROT

Coventry Firefighters are completing their timed annual physical agility test, which simulates the physical fitness tasks required on the fireground. Firemedic Harrell is shown in the video. This test originally started in 1999 when we did the course with Akron Fire and was moved to our station after the training tower at Akron was condemned several years later. This has been an annual requirement of the job since 1999. Best part of Firemedic Harrell's good time was that he wanted to do it again to try for a lower time.

Barn Fire:

NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio – May 14, 2026 - The New Franklin Fire Department was dispatched at 12:16 PM for a report of a barn fire in the 7200 block of Benner Road, New Franklin, Ohio.

New Franklin Fire Department arrived and found a large barn with smoke and flames coming from the structure. Firefighters quickly extended hose lines to protect additional structures that were threatened by the rapidly growing fire, due to heavy wind gusts. While firefighters were successful in keeping the fire from spreading, the barn and its continents are a total loss.

Fire crews and water tankers from Barberton, Clinton, Coventry Twp, Green, Norton, Springfield Twp, Chippewa Twp and Lawrence Twp Township/Canal Fulton assisted New Franklin firefighters on the scene.

Benner Road does not have fire hydrants, so all water to fight the fire had to be brought to the scene by tankers.

It is believed that the fire started from a lawn mower that had been used and parked in the barn just prior to the homeowner finding the fire. The New Franklin Fire Department recommends that anybody mowing grass, place the mower outside of any structure until the mower has cooled down to avoid any potential for fire from the hot motor.
