Rep. Derrick Hall
I grew up in Akron with a single mother in government housing. Some days we were unsure of what we were going to eat.
I'm honored to serve as your current Ohio State Representative for HD 34, representing Stow, Hudson, Tallmadge, Munroe Falls, Silver Lake, North Akron and Northwest Akron! When I was 13, my mother finished her teaching degree and became a full time teacher. Our lives improved; better housing, more food security, and less stress. I realized at that time how education could transform a person’s life

Yesterday, Gov. DeWine signed SB 450, Ohio's capital budget bill, which will allow for a $3.7 billion investment in public projects throughout the state. I'm proud of the work I did to advocate for our district, collaborating with our community leaders and other state legislators, including our Senator Casey Weinstein and Rep. Veronica Sims, to bring home $7.8 million for Summit County health, safety, cultural, and recreational infrastructure projects, including ones in Akron, Stow, Munroe Falls, and Hudson. Good luck to the Walsh Jesuit baseball team, which will be playing for the state championship tonight in Akron, and to coach Joe Bowers, who grew up in North Hill, just like me!
Walsh Jesuit baseball clinches spot in OHSAA state final, where New Albany awaits Walsh Jesuit beat Hoover 4-2 in 10 innings to reach the state final after a dramatic inside-the-park home run by Colin Locigno. New Albany is next.

Constituent involvement is critical for holding legislators accountable to the needs of the people. Thank you to all who contacted my office regarding this bill and those who took the time to testify.

Here’s an update on HB 795. Another hearing will be held Monday, June 8, at 2 pm.
We do need to ferret out fraud, waste and abuse. But ramming through ill-conceived legislation that punishes patients is not the solution.

Last week I introduced The Fracking Accountability and Chemical Transparency Act, or the F.A.C.T. Act. This legislation, House Bill 958, aims to prioritize transparency and take steps towards a healthier Ohio by requiring companies to disclose the chemicals they use in oil and gas well operations. The F.A.C.T. Act also requires this information to be made public, and requires random sampling to ensure truthful reporting. At a minimum, communities should know if/when their safe drinking water is at risk.

Last night, the House Medicaid Committee heard opponent testimony for House Bill 795. Over 75 individuals submitted profound testimony, and our office received nearly 200 emails and calls from Ohioans. While this bill goes through the legislative process, it is important that we as legislators remember the weight of our everyday decisions, take our time to ensure legislation is the best it can be, and really listen to Ohioans when they tell us what they need. I am grateful to the witnesses that shared their experiences, and I am hopeful for an outcome that protects the safety and dignity of our constituents and neighbors.
