We’re so grateful to the Leadership Akron Class 43 for coming together and making a difference through a litter cleanup on Miller Ave. and the surrounding streets!

From mattresses and clothing to milk cartons, VHS tapes, tires, bottles, and so much more, the group worked hard to remove a wide variety of litter and illegally dumped items from the neighborhood.

A special thank you to Henry for orchestrating the cleanup and to everyone who came out, got involved, and put in the hard work.

45 Years. 45 Ways. One Beautiful Akron. 🌿

To celebrate 45 years of Keep Akron Beautiful, we’re challenging the Akron community to complete 45 simple acts that make Akron cleaner, greener, and more beautiful!

Pick a challenge, or pick 45! From picking up litter and visiting a Flowerscape to planting something, shopping secondhand, volunteering, supporting a local business, or spending time enjoying an Akron green space, there are so many ways to get involved.

🍂 And keep an eye out throughout October for some bonus fall-themed challenges, too!

You don't have to complete all 45. Pick the ones that inspire you, invite someone to join you, and make them your own.

Because this challenge isn't really about checking every box. It's about coming together as a community and celebrating all the little things we can do to make Akron cleaner, greener, and more beautiful.

We’re wrapping up our fall cleanup season with one last opportunity to come together and help keep Akron cleaner, greener, and more beautiful!

🌳 The ABCs of Trees! 🌳

By educating our community today, we’re helping inspire the next generation of tree stewards who will care for, protect, and benefit from these incredible trees for years to come.

And the best part? These are all trees you can find right here in our city!

This week’s letter is G for Ginkgo Tree!

The Ginkgo is an ancient deciduous tree known for its unique fan-shaped leaves and brilliant yellow fall color. It’s considered a “living fossil” because its species has remained largely unchanged for millions of years. Ginkgo trees are also incredibly pollution tolerant and can thrive in nutrient-deficient soils.

And while their fall color is beautiful, there’s one thing to keep in mind: female Ginkgo trees produce fruits with a famously unpleasant smell when they fall and begin to decompose!

A huge thank you to Barberton Tree Service Inc. for taking us through the whole alphabet of trees again in such a fun and engaging way! We’re so grateful for your continued partnership and collaboration as we work together to keep Akron clean, green, and beautiful.

45 years. 45 sunflowers. So many people who make our work possible. 🌻

In celebration of our 45th anniversary, we had the pleasure of gifting 45 special people who have made a meaningful impact on Keep Akron Beautiful a sunflower bouquet, generously gifted by Akron's Finest Mulch ✨

From donors and supporters to elected officials, city representatives, volunteers, community partners, and so many others, each of you has played a special part in helping us make Akron a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful place to call home.

We are eternally grateful for your continued support, encouragement, and belief in the work we do.

And to everyone reading this, we’re sharing a sunflower with you, too. Without your support, we simply couldn’t do the work we do.

Here’s to 45 years of beautifying Akron and to all of the people who make it possible.

Grateful is an understatement. We are so thankful for the opportunity to clean up Ward 3 again in partnership with City of Akron's Mayor Shammas Malik and Council President Margo Sommerville!

A huge THANK YOU to all of the City of Akron, OH staff who joined us, the Akron Police Department, IBH Addiction Recovery, Grassroots Exterior's of Tallmadge, Ray Recovery, Barberton Tree Service Inc., our KAB board members, the folks who came out solo, and all of the incredible groups who showed up ready to get to work.

And a special thank you to the City of Akron Sanitation Team for collecting all of the tonnage and tires from the cleanup. We truly could not have done it without you!

So many hands came together to make a BIG impact in Ward 3, and we can’t wait to share the final tonnage with you.

City of Akron, OH Akron City Council Councilwoman Margo Sommerville

A huge thank you to Tim Shannon and his Adopt-A-Site team for spending time at Hardesty Park caring for the pollinator garden! Their latest visit included picking up litter and weeding, filling three bags of trash and unwanted growth, including thistle and mugwort.

We’re so grateful for volunteers like Tim and his team who continue to give their time and care to help keep Akron’s green spaces beautiful. They’re planning one more cleanup next month before the garden settles in for winter.

We also love their thoughtful approach to supporting local wildlife.

Rather than clearing everything away in the fall, they leave plants that have gone to seed standing so birds and other local wildlife can enjoy them throughout the winter. 🌱🐦

What a pleasure it is to revitalize the Bud & Susie Rogers Garden at the Akron Art Museum 🌸 We are so grateful to our incredible Flowerscape crew for bringing this beautiful space back to life and filling it with gorgeous blooms.

A huge thank-you to Dave (Flowerscape Director), Jessica, and Maddi for all of their hard work and dedication! We’re so proud of the transformation and can’t wait for everyone to enjoy it.
