Project Shine

For 25 years, Project Shine has served the Akron community with a simple mission: to make Christ known through basic home improvement. Together—through churches, youth groups, neighbors, and volunteers—we have painted homes, restored yards, and built relationships that will last well beyond any work project.

Since Covid, our ability to secure volunteers and resources has steadily decreased, even as the need has continued to grow. After prayerful consideration, we believe that the season for Project Shine has come to a close. As Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.”

We want to express our sincere gratitude to every volunteer, leader, homeowner, supporter, and prayer partner who walked with us. Homes were changed, yes—but hearts were changed too. The love of Christ was shared, and that impact remains.

Thank you for believing in this mission. Thank you for serving. Thank you for Shining.

Let’s Shine Brighter Together, August 22–23!

Project Shine is looking for volunteer groups—businesses, churches, families, and small groups—to help us serve the Kenmore neighborhood through painting, deck staining, and yard clean-up projects.

We’ve got homes to restore and hope to share—but we can’t do it without your help!

Meanwhile in Goodyear Heights...

Due to the uncooperative weather this project took 3 days.

Day 1 clearing overgrown bushes and weeds

Day 2 scraping the deck, still too wet to paint it.

Day 3 finally got to paint the deck!

Today was family serve day!

Doug Martin brought his two little sidekicks and Tom Polatas brought his two big sidekicks! Taylor Rahe and Marisa Norton!

When you have to feed a crew on the Go, boxed lunches from West Ave Tavern hits the spot!

Due to the recent and consistent rain we are shifting our paint days to Friday and Saturday this week. We need the decks and porches to be dry before applying the paint.

We would love for all our volunteers to be able to shift with us but we know that is a tall order. Thus, if you could help us out on the painting days reach out to [email protected].
