We are excited to announce that former President & CEO of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, Dan Rice, has joined Environmental Design Group as Director of Community Partnerships! With more than 32 years of experience in community development, Dan has played an integral role in the advancement of many of the public spaces enjoyed by the Akron region today, most notably the Towpath Trail.
At EDG, Dan will lead community and stakeholder engagement strategy, deepen relationships with municipal and public-sector partners, and support business development across the firm's service groups. He'll be based at EDG's Akron headquarters.

The Village of Utica's wastewater treatment plant upgrade has new equipment on site as it moves through construction. The existing plant dates back to 1930 and was permitted to treat 435,000 gallons per day but is regularly processing more than 500,000 gallons. Environmental Design Group is partnering with the Village on a full plant upgrade. Our construction management team is guiding the project through bidding and contract administration, submittal review, RFIs, change order negotiations, field observation and quantity tracking. The finished product will result in a modernized plant built to serve the Village for decades to come.

Construction ➡️ completion of a full bridge replacement.
Residents who cross Sunrise Blvd. Bridge in Kent now have 4' sidewalks on each side, separated from traffic by railings and a concrete barrier, providing a safe way for pedestrians to move about the neighborhood. Getting there required rebuilding the bridge from the abutments up: removing the existing steel superstructure and deck in phases to keep the corridor open during construction, seating new prestressed concrete composite box beams and replacing the approach slabs so the transition on and off the bridge is seamless.
Environmental Design Group served as construction manager on the project, providing daily field inspection under the ODOT LPA manual. Our team handled material verification and quantity tracking, structures inspection, change order review, construction engineering, material testing coordination and project closeout.
