General Synod starts this afternoon with worship and runs through Tuesday morning, June 16. Please join us in prayer for this assembly and meeting—that the peace and love of Christ will be present and that the Holy Spirit would lead with wisdom. With solemnity and grief, we mark Good Friday. It is a sad day, for Jesus gave up his life for us. It is a good day, for God loved us so much, he gave up his Son for us.

“All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before him. ... Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord and proclaim his deliverance to a people yet unborn, saying that he has done it.” —Psalm 22:27, 30-31

On Maundy Thursday, many Christians partake in the Lord’s Supper as a remembrance of Christ’s last supper with his disciples before his death. By eating and drinking the Lord’s Supper, we are reminded that Jesus wants us to love each other and to forgive each other as he has done for us: “Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another” (John 13:34). This is the command represented in the word “Maundy,” which comes from the Latin mandatum, meaning “command.” On this day and every day, may our lives be marked by Christ’s love for us as we extend that love to others.
