My bees are nice and cozy in this cold snowy weather 😀😀😀

Getting your bees ready for winter is very important. This is a quilt box filled with wood chips. This goes below the top cover and will absorb moisture. Moisture in your hive will make the bees wet and cold and they will die.

Made a candy board for my hive. A candy board is a emergency food source just incase they need extra good during the winter months. The bees will take the sugar and mix it with moisture from snow or the hive and eat it.

Bet you didn’t know that a beekeeper feeds their bees. We use sugar water or different additives in the spring and fall when pollen supplies are low. In the spring we us a 1:1 mixture to help the bees build out their combs. In the fall we use a thicker 2:1 mixture to help make sure they can make enough honey to survive the winter. You can also use pollen Pattie’s for food. Below I use a top feeder which will keep other enemy bees from robbing the hive and it keeps the bees from drowning 🐝🐝🐝

The difference in color between spring(right) and left(left) is amazing. The color depends on the kind of pollen the bees are collecting.

Rendered down some wax last weekend. We can use this to make candles and many other things but this round I will use it to put back on the frames in the spring to get help them build combs.
