Former Ellet, Hoban coach John Sarver headed to OHSBCA Hall of Fame Retired Akron Public Schools baseball coach John Sarver is set to be inducted in the OHSBCA Hall of Fame. Sarver led winning teams at Ellet and Hoban.

Ellet and the Akron basketball community has lost a good one. RIP Coach.

Akron basketball legend, longtime high school coach Bobby Smith dies Bobby "Sumthin'" Smith, who made history with Akron Zips basketball in the 1960s and coached Norton, South and East high schools, has died. He was 79.

Fall sports will begin soon. Many begin practicing in June and July. We’re excited to offer the following nine Fall sports: football, girls volleyball, boys soccer, girls soccer, girls tennis, boys golf, girls golf, boys cross country, and girls cross country. Congratulations to Ellet High School Alum Larry Pantages on receiving the Andy Palich Memorial Service Award given out by the Summit County Sports Hall of Fame. He will be inducted into the SCSHOF on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Pantages started covering high school sports for the Akron Beacon Journal in 1978. He later moved on to be the beat writer for the Cleveland Cavaliers for the ABJ. Pantages eventually became the sports editor for the Akron Beacon Journal and held the role from 1998-2006.
