As I’ve been exposed to the world of publishing, I’ve learned a few things about the industry. Traditional publishing does not automatically equal a good story.

Many authors—myself included—choose independent publishing for a variety of reasons: word counts that fall outside traditional parameters, the desire for creative control, or values that don’t align with agents or publishers.

There are many excellent independent books out there. Consider supporting a local or independent author. The best part? You can do it at no cost—by sharing, reviewing, or recommending their work.

I did it. I did the Reedsy Novel Sprint in November. 50,000 words in 30 was a challenge, but I joined 721 other people worldwide to complete it. The story will probably never see press (A sports romance), but the challenge and accomplishment were worth it. Now back to the Forgotten Spire series. Zulu Company and its companion novella, Shadowveil, are ready for the editor, and books 3 and 4 are making progress.
