You have probably heard of turbochargers or turbos before. You are going see them used more and more on new vehicles as a way to help fuel economy by getting the same amount or more power out of a smaller engine. Manufacturers like Ford with their "EcoBoost" engines are going to push turbo technology and reliability to new levels as the years go by. This is a great video of how a turbocharger works. These two motors are from nearly identical cars, both with well over 100k miles. The first used conventional oil while the second used full synthetic oil. This is one of the reasons that we recommend using synthetic oil in your vehicle, especially here in DFW where it is very hot in the summer and many of us spend over an hour a day in stop and go traffic.
