Meta announced on June 13, 2026 that it is donating Ray Ban Meta AI glasses to every legally blind veteran in the United States, around 130,000 people. Built with the Blinded Veterans Association and nonprofit TechSoup, the glasses help users read documents aloud, identify objects, navigate spaces, and handle daily tasks hands free. Don Overton, a veteran of the 82nd Airborne who lost his sight in Desert Storm, helped design features for blind users.

Japan’s semiconductor gas production has reportedly been disrupted after China tightened export controls on tungsten-related materials, a key input for tungsten hexafluoride (WF₆), an essential deposition gas used in chip manufacturing.
The shortage is said to be affecting global semiconductor supply chains and raising concerns for major chipmakers like TSMC, which relies on stable material inputs for advanced fabrication, as well as memory makers such as Samsung and SK hynix.

Fast-fashion giant Shein is facing intense legal pressure. A lawsuit in the United States alleges that its cheap clothes contain toxic chemicals.
Global fast-fashion titan Shein is under heavy fire following a landmark lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in 2026.
The state alleges that the company systematically distributes apparel laden with hazardous substances, including PFAS, phthalates, lead, and cadmium. According to the legal complaint, independent laboratory testing revealed that certain garments—most notably children's wear—contained toxic chemical levels exceeding legal safety limits by thousands of times.
Formaldehyde levels in select clothing items marketed to infants and children were reportedly measured far over the permitted legal threshold, sparking profound public health alarms.
The legal assault extends beyond physical safety into severe data privacy and intellectual property concerns. Texas authorities contend that Shein functions as a massive 'data siphon,' potentially exposing sensitive American customer data to external state actors, while separate cases level racketeering (RICO) allegations against the retailer's intellectual property practices. This regulatory pushback builds on previous investigations, including a 2025 Greenpeace study finding widespread EU safety violations in Shein goods.
As fast fashion faces unprecedented scrutiny, the ongoing legal battles are forcing consumers to weigh the true cost of ultra-cheap, disposable apparel against serious health and privacy risks.

In the post, he wrote: “And so GOODBYE from me to Doctor Who but HELLO to a big new future for the show, as the BBC announces it’s putting the show out to tender . . .
“As a result, there won’t be a Christmas Special – we only cooked that up to guarantee a future when no one knew what would happen, but now we do know, there’s no need for it.”
“You’ll have to wait a bit longer for new Doctor Who… but you’ll be waiting for MORE Doctor Who than a one-off. So it’s worth it!”

The development of a commercial atmospheric water harvester capable of generating up to 1,000 liters of clean drinking water daily from ambient air marks a massive milestone in decentralized resource security.
Designed by the technology company Atoco, which was co-founded by University of California, Berkeley chemist and 2025 Nobel Prize laureate Professor Omar Yaghi, the system introduces a highly scalable alternative for arid regions.
The core innovation relies entirely on Yaghi’s pioneering work in reticular chemistry—the practice of linking molecular building blocks into predetermined, porous frameworks.
At the heart of the machine are synthetic materials known as Metal-Organic Frameworks (M*Fs), which are custom-engineered at the molecular level to act like microscopic sponges with an astronomical internal surface area.
The internal pores of the M*F are tailored with specific chemical properties that aggressively attract and capture water v***r molecules while completely ignoring nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide.
This allows the material to efficiently extract moisture even in hyper-arid conditions where relative humidity levels drop below 20%.
Traditional atmospheric water generators rely on heavy, energy-intensive refrigeration compressors to cool ambient air down to its dew point. In contrast, Yaghi’s M*F system requires only mild thermal energy.
When exposed to sunlight or minimal ambient heat, the framework shifts, releasing the trapped moisture as a concentrated v***r stream that easily precipitates out into liquid water.
This minimal thermal threshold allows the units to operate completely off-grid using passive solar energy.
Housed inside a standard 20-foot shipping container, the portable infrastructure is designed for rapid deployment to disaster zones, remote desert communities, and climate-vulnerable nations.
By bypassing the massive energy demands and toxic brine byproduct generation characteristic of traditional industrial solutions like desalination, this molecular-scale innovation provides an eco-friendly path toward global water sovereignty.

Experts just identified the gut bacteria that triggers multiple sclerosis.
Conducted by scientists at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, the study uniquely controlled for genetic and environmental variables by examining genetically identical siblings.
In a major scientific breakthrough, researchers studying 81 pairs of identical twins—where only one sibling had multiple sclerosis (MS)—have pinpointed two specific strains of gut bacteria that appear to trigger the disease.
The researchers identified Eisenbergiella tayi and Lachnoclostridium, which were significantly more prevalent in the siblings with MS. When these gut microbes were introduced to mouse models, they directly triggered MS-like symptoms, showcasing a functional link between the microbiome and autoimmune disease.
This discovery marks the most precise identification of MS-related bacterial triggers to date, offering compelling evidence for the gut-brain axis in chronic autoimmune disorders. While further human clinical trials are essential, the findings open transformative possibilities for early detection and therapy. By specifically targeting or modifying these gut bacteria, future medical treatments could potentially slow, halt, or even prevent the onset of MS entirely before symptoms emerge.

Marcia Lucas has sadly passed away at the age of 80 the Oscar winning editor of the original STAR WARS 🕊️
Marcia wasn’t just part of the film’s editing team, she helped shape some of the most important emotional moments in STAR WARS and won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing alongside Paul Hirsch and Richard Chew for the 1977 classic. Many filmmakers and historians have credited her work as a major reason the film became the phenomenon it did.
Beyond STAR WARS, she also worked on AMERICAN GRAFFITI, TAXI DRIVER and RETURN OF THE JEDI, leaving behind a legacy that helped define an entire era of cinema. May the Force be with her. Always.
