With the Brittany he wanted the high intelligence, smaller frame, light footed, athletic, and endurance of the fast twitch muscles the Brittany brings to the table. 16 month old Brittany-Wirehair cross, a turn key already started bird dog that just needs to be taken out hunting named Ben. Jim has been crossing these two breeds over the past 5 years with great reviews from family’s who own one. Ben is a solid liver color with settle orange highlights in his coat with a white patch on his chest. He weighs roughly 50lbs. Ben is a great retriever and does not hesitate to make a water retriever. He has already figured out at his young age and understands the meaning of team work and partnership and is very eager to please. Ben is not a vocal dog and is crate trained, house broke, and has good manners in his kennel. He does great with other dogs, ignores them while hunting but will gladly play and get along with any dog while he’s off the clock. Ben does great and has been exposed to kids. He is a calmer demeanor dog and could make someone a great multipurpose dog for chasing upland and sitting in the blind retrieving waterfowl. These are out-cross to out-cross which means the mother and father are both half German Wirehaired Pointers and half American Brittanys Spaniels making there offspring called out-cross’s. This picture is of 7month old “griz” a GWP and Brittany cross with his owner Victor on the closing day of chucker hunting in Nevada. Victor told Jim when he sent this picture that “griz moves like no other dog he has seen before!”

Just a few more short weeks tell the best time of the year for us uplanders! Now is a great time to get those first birds of the season gitters out of the way for yourself and bird dogs. We have a small supply of roosters on the farm right now. Bring a buddy or the whole family and enjoy a day of safe successful pheasant hunting. A lot of customers love to do a one on one class with Jim and yourself with your dog and end the class with a bang shooting birds over your dog.

Got some new faces at the farm a few weeks ago. These are half Britney/ German wirehair pointers. Jims desire when he cross these two breeds was to take the best characteristics these breeds have to offer in chasing game. He desired to have the hardy mental, physically tough, and coat that wirehair has to offer and with the Brittany he wanted the smaller frame, light foot, athletic, and endurance of the fast twitch muscles the Brittany brings to the table. The last 3 litters have all turned out to be exactly what he was shooting for and even more! Both parents are on site 6 of the 12 puppies have already been claimed. If you are interested let’s us know these little firecrackers are going fast.

Acme hunting club is great place to introduce hunting to your next generation for many reasons, easy short walking for the little ones with easy and safe successful hunts. We emphasize on safety and fun. The smile on jacks face in the picture says it all, I know him and his family will be back for a lot more hunts in the future!!!!

Darren Schram brought out his pair of wirehairs to the farm for some off season pigeon work. Here is his female on point. Darren sure has done a great job with his wirehairs, most definitely going need to get together with him this season to see these dogs in action

One thing Jim is very adamant and unique about with his personal bird dogs is having a adaptable bird dog. Having a pointer in the duck blind retrieving ducks or his labs in the field chasing down big ring necks
