From the Absarokee Fire Department a huge thank you to our community for all your help and support with the fires in our area this last week. From those who provided food for the firefighters (Fishtail General Store, Stillwater Bar and Grill, Josh Boyce, I am sure there was more that I am not aware of yet), to our family, friends and neighbors who took care of things in town or at our places of employment while we were away. To our neighboring fire departments and state firefighters who came to lend a helping hand. We offer our deepest heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to you all!

RLFR Fights House Fire As it Ignites Wildland Fire

Unfortunately, we are already in fire season for Carbon County. On Wednesday, April 24, Red Lodge Fire Rescue reported a structure fire. It ended up spreading to the woods beyond the home. It was a difficult fire for the department as they explained in their report:

"Tuesday, April 23, Red Lodge Fire Rescue along with Absarokee Fire, Columbus Fire and Roberts Fire responded to a structure fire up the East Rosebud Canyon. By the time responders were able to get to the house, it was fully involved.

Fortunately, no one was at home at the time of the blaze.

The fire in the home ignited a wildland fire on the surrounding hillside which was quickly extinguished by firefighters. The steep terrain made access challenging, but crews were able to supply adequate water and ensure safety.

Unfortunately, the structure was a complete loss."

Todd Frazer named Absarokee Firefighter of the Year For the second time in a row, Todd Frazer was named “firefighter of the year” for the Absarokee Volunteer Fire Rescue Department.

Thank you Sibanye Stillwater Mine! Earlier this year they granted Absarokee Fire with $10,000 to purchase an enclosed trailer to house and transport our side by side. It’s here and it’s perfect! Thank you for the continued support from sibanye stillwater mine!
