Long time "Rooster Rat" and member of the original Fallout crew Chad Pederson connected us to an opportunity for a grant through (his job) Offut Family Foundation via RDO Equipment Co. This Community Builder Grant was a perfect fit for us. They gave us the highest amount a non-profit can recieve from the foundation. This support will go far to assist us in our community building mission. Thanks Chad and RDO!!

Thank you, United Way of Northeastern SD Foundation! We are able to scale up with some much needed computer systems!

One of our favorite moments of the year is when the United Way NESD Foundation teams up with member agencies to purchase some much need items that don't fit into their general budget. These are the type of actions that help great nonprofits scale up and out more than before. Congrats to our 2026 grant recipients!

Aberdeen Film Showcase is excited to feature filmmaker Alice Vogel's film Troop 13. Saturday, March 28 -NSU JFAC along with 20 other short films and 15 filmmakers. Full schedule/more info: https://www.aberdeenfilmshowcase.com/

Alice grew up here in Aberdeen, where many first knew her through Central High School’s theater and musical productions. Alongside that, she was already stepping into filmmaking, joining 48 Hour Film challenges with her dad before eventually creating her own films for the competition.

Now studying Film Production and English Literature at Minnesota State University Moorhead, Alice continues to build her voice as a filmmaker. Her work has screened at festivals across the region and beyond—Troop 13, a stop-motion animated film created with her classmates, has even been selected internationally. She’s also a three-time Upper Midwest Student Emmy winner.

Alice is currently studying abroad in England, so she’ll be joining us through a special video greeting at the showcase.

Aberdeen Film Showcase is excited to welcome South Dakota filmmaker Andrew Kightlinger! -March 28 -NSU JFAC -Event Page: https://www.facebook.com/share/1D5PuMgPeA/

Andrew’s work has reached far beyond our region. His latest feature, Lost on a Mountain in Maine—produced by Sylvester Stallone—was released in theaters and went on to reach Netflix’s Global Top 10. He also wrote and directed Tater Tot & Patton, and is a Slamdance Screenplay Grand Prize winner.

He was recently commissioned by Fujifilm to write and direct the short film OKAY, created using their new GFX ETERNA cinema camera. This is the film Andrew will be screening at the Showcase—a powerful, character-driven story that blends emotion with cutting-edge filmmaking tools.

But what matters most to us is this: he’s a filmmaker with South Dakota roots who has built a path in the industry while staying connected to story, place, and people.

At the Showcase, Andrew will be part of a filmmaker panel and conversation about the craft, the process, and what it takes to keep creating in South Dakota or beyond.
