Aberdeen Fire Rescue Responds to two structure fires
Aberdeen, SD – On June 12, 2026, at approximately 2:33 p.m., Aberdeen Fire Rescue was dispatched to the 1200 block of Birchwood Lane for a structure fire.
Fire crews arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the attic vents. Crews found fire in the attic but were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
On June 13, 2026 at 2:39 a.m. units were dispatched to a three-story apartment building in the 2100 block of 3rd Ave SE. The building had heavy smoke throughout and an apartment on the second floor was on fire. Crews were able to quickly knockdown the fire and multiple pets were saved. There were no injuries in either fire. The exact cause of the fires remain under investigation.

Typically, fire hoses are utilized to extinguish fires; however, today we are employing coffee to satiate a severe sugar craving. We extend our gratitude to Captain Kendra and Captain Joseph of the Salvation Army for visiting the station with treats in celebration of National Donut Day. Aberdeen Fire Rescue Responds to Rooftop Air Conditioning Unit Fire

Aberdeen, SD – On May 28, 2026, at approximately 9:33 a.m., Aberdeen Fire Rescue was dispatched to the Alonzo Ward Hotel (104 S. Main Street) for a reported fire on the roof.

Fire crews arrived on scene to find smoke and flames coming from the roof. Crews determined the fire originated from a rooftop air conditioning unit. Electrical power to the unit was shut off, and the fire was quickly extinguished using portable water can fire extinguishers.

No damage occurred inside the structure. Crews remained on scene to ensure there were no additional hot spots. One civilian sustained injuries and was evaluated by Aberdeen Fire Rescue paramedics before being transported by private vehicle to a local hospital for further care. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Aberdeen Fire Rescue will begin flushing hydrants today between North Dakota Street and North 5th Street from the railroad tracks north to city limits.

Firefighter EMT Maddox Hanson successfully completed one year of service and received a personal helmet shield to commemorate this milestone.
