Ransomware is not random. It is predictable.

Most attacks succeed because a few basics are missed. Fix those and your risk drops fast.

What actually works
• Backups that are tested and stored off your main network
• Extra login protection on email and key systems
• Automatic updates turned on and checked
• Team trained to spot suspicious messages
• Limited access so one mistake does not expose everything

No fear. Just actions that work.

Ask about backup + recovery planning.

Phishing red flags: 5 things you can spot in 10 seconds

Most phishing messages are designed to make you rush. Take 10 seconds and look for these quick red flags:
• Urgent pressure: “act now” or “final warning”
• Sender looks close, but not quite right
• Link looks normal, but the address is weird
• Unexpected attachment you were not expecting
• Request for passwords, codes, or payment info

Hotel teams and small business teams get hit the same way: fake invoices, fake “booking” messages, fake vendor updates.

We can run phishing simulations + training to help your team spot threats faster. Send us a message and we will tell you how it works.

VoIP call quality checklist (WiFi vs wired, VLANs, QoS in plain English)

Bad call quality is usually not the phone. It is the network.

Quick checklist to fix the most common issues:
• Use wired internet for phones when you can. WiFi is shared airspace. Wired is consistent.
• If you must use WiFi, use 5 GHz and strong signal. Weak signal equals choppy audio.
• Separate voice traffic from everything else with a VLAN. Plain English: put phone calls in their own lane so Netflix and updates do not cut in line.
• Turn on QoS for voice. Plain English: tell your network, “phone calls go first.”
• Watch for upload problems. VoIP needs steady upload, not just download.
• Avoid double NAT and cheap routers in the middle. Those create delay, jitter, and one way audio.
• Keep switches and access points updated. Old firmware causes random problems that look like “VoIP issues.”
• Run a simple speed test during business hours. If results swing a lot, your calls will too.

Want a call quality check? Send us a message and we will point you to the fastest fix.

Security “quick wins” checklist (5 things to do this week)

Small changes can block big problems. Here are 5 security wins you can knock out this week, even with a busy schedule.

1. Turn on multi factor authentication (MFA) for email and admin logins. If a password gets stolen, MFA helps stop the takeover.
2. Install updates on your most critical devices first. Start with servers, firewalls, and anything exposed to the internet.
3. Check backups and do a real test restore. A backup you cannot restore is not a backup. Pick one file or one folder and verify you can bring it back.
4. Remove admin access from everyday accounts. Give people only what they need to do their job. It limits damage if an account gets hit.
5. Run a 10 minute phishing check with your team. Share one example of a suspicious email and agree on one rule: when in doubt, report it.

Want a tailored version for your business? Message MP Technology and we will turn this into a simple, role based checklist for your team.

To our community, we encourage you to take a moment today to remember, honor, and show respect.

We will never forget.

🚪 The Unlocked Door at Your Front Desk

Most businesses focus on firewalls, passwords, and software updates.

But what if your biggest risk is something much simpler?

In hospitality and many small businesses, the front desk is often the easiest entry point for attackers. Not through hacking, but through trust, distraction, or simple human error.

Our latest blog breaks down how these everyday moments can turn into real security risks and what you can do to stay protected.

Patch Management: Why “Later” Becomes “Breach”

Most security breaches don’t happen because companies ignore security…
They happen because updates get postponed.

When patches are delayed:
• Known vulnerabilities stay open
• Attackers don’t wait
• Small gaps become big problems

The good news?
You don’t have to rely on reminders, busy schedules, or “we’ll get to it.”
✅ Automated patching keeps systems updated
✅ Reduces downtime and risk
✅ One less thing for your team to worry about

We can automate patching.
Security works best when it runs in the background—quietly and consistently.
