A Historic First Match for Kasese Girls at National Level!
Today, our girls from Kasese SDA Primary School, representing Kasese Municipality at the 2026 Uganda National Primary Schools Ball Games in Mubende, played their first-ever national-level football match against Tororo District Local Government. The match ended 0–0.
The result may not have been what we wanted, but we are proud of our girls and coaches. Our journey is not only about winning trophies; it is about creating a platform where girls can play, compete, discover their talent and prove that girls can play football too.
Yet equality in football remains a challenge. While boys' football teams at national primary school level number more than 100, girls' football teams are only about 20. This gap means many talented girls never receive the opportunity to compete.
As NeFCoRD, we call upon the Ministry of Education and Sports to strengthen girls' football by encouraging or requiring every district to organize girls' football competitions and participate at national level.
If every district gives girls a team, Uganda will discover thousands of girls who are ready to play, lead and excel.
Let girls play. Let girls compete. Let girls lead.
“Girl Rising taught us that storytelling is not simply about sharing stories; it is a powerful tool for shifting harmful norms and mindsets. When girls tell their own stories, they challenge stereotypes, question what society has accepted as ‘normal,’ and create space for new possibilities. Through our learning with Girl Rising, NeFCoRD has come to understand that a girl’s voice can transform how families, schools, communities, and leaders see her potential. By placing girls at the centre of storytelling, we move from speaking about girls to listening to them, learning from them, and supporting them to shape the change they want to see.”
NeFCoRD, Girls First Institute Learning Journey
Our Journey with Girl Rising & She’s the First: From Learning to Action
NeFCoRD’s journey with Girl Rising and She’s the First has transformed how we work with girls and boys. Through the Girls First Institute, we gained practical skills in girl-centered design, girl-led advocacy, mentorship, SRHR programming and participatory learning.
The What Would You Do? (WWYD) card game has become central to our SRHR work, making sensitive conversations easier, safer and more engaging for girls and boys. The implementation grant has also enabled us to turn learning into action through school outreaches, mentorship and girls’ rights advocacy.
Today, WWYD is more than a game; it is a powerful tool helping young people discuss real-life situations, strengthen decision-making and speak confidently about their rights.
We are grateful to everyone who continues to invest in girls’ voices and leadership.
Indeed Girls for Climate Action has empowered our girls in agribusiness through the vegetable garden and the tree nursery beds. This is not only a source of food for the girls but also teaching them about tree planting and making compost manure to do away with artificial fertilizers and pesticides that later contributes to loss of soil fertility.

Breaking Barriers: Women Leading the Future of Football
The FIFA Coach Education Scholarship for the CAF C Coaching Course, held at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru under the theme “Empowering More Women to Lead, Inspire, and Transform the Future of the Game,” has marked another important step toward gender equality in football.
We are proud to celebrate our own Coach Mbambu Medresi, who is part of this prestigious programme.
As a coach of our Under-10 girls and boys at Kamaiba Soccer Academy, her achievement is more than a personal milestone; it is a significant achievement for our academy and an inspiring moment for Kasese District.
Medresi is making history as the first woman from Kasese District to join the CAF C Coaching Course, while also being a member of our staff.
Beyond coaching, she is an active footballer with She Kasese giving her a unique opportunity to coach from experience and become a powerful role model for the young girls she leads.
This achievement strengthens what we have always believed at Kamaiba Soccer Academy: girls and women deserve equal opportunities to participate, lead, coach, and excel in sports.
Our continued work to create platforms for girls to play football is not only about competition; it is about breaking stereotypes, building confidence, developing leadership, and opening doors that were previously closed to women and girls.
We extend our sincere appreciation to , and for identifying, supporting and investing in women who are shaping the future of the game.
From the football pitch in Kasese to the coaching centre in Njeru, Medresi is showing our girls that the future of football can have their names on it too.
The future is bright. The future is inclusive. The future belongs to everyone.

Kasese Girls Are Ready to Make History!
Today, 24 August 2026, the girls of Kasese SDA Primary School travel to Mubende Army Secondary School to represent Kasese Municipality at the National Primary School Games.
With the support of Kamaiba Soccer Academy, these girls are stepping onto the national stage for the first time in the history of Kasese, carrying more than a football; they carry a message: Kasese girls can compete, excel and lead.
Our purpose is clear: to provide girls with a platform to develop their talent, compete with confidence and inspire a new generation of female athletes.
As reminds us, “Sport has the power to change lives.” Sport builds teamwork, resilience and confidence while challenging harmful gender stereotypes.
We also believe football must be a safe space, free from gender-based violence. UN Women advocates for using sport to promote gender equality and “a life free of violence.”
Kasese SDA Primary School can become a centre of influence and excellence; not only in academics, but also in girls' football.
Kasese girls have decided. Now let the nation watch them rise.
