Our Story

The idea for SafeBangle originated at a time when there were many killings and kidnappings of women in Uganda. The cases were often dismissed because of lack of evidence and failure of timely reporting. we wanted to use technology to overcome this and prevent the suffering of women. At the moment 56% of women aged 14-49 will experience violence but just 22% will report. we asked ourselves “why?”. We found out that women often wanted to report but felt they could not, due to lack of trust in the police, not knowing who to turn to and fear of stigma. We believe SafeBangle will help these women by creating a loud alarm to scare away perpetrators and call people close by, as well as, contacting chosen close friends and family that are able to provide immediate help for victims.
