Six-year-old Azmi was part of our Child-Friendly Space in Uganda, where he found comfort in drawing and playing with other children.
After 3 years as a refugee, on the 19 august 2026 the mother made the difficult decision to return to Sudan. On their way, their vehicle was stopped by armed men at night. The armed men robbed them of their belongings and later opened fire on the vehicle. Azmi was shot twice in the chest and died there in the vehicle beside his mother.

54 Sudanese women survivors came together to share their stories and testimonies, support one another, and reconnect with a sense of home and belonging. For women whose lives have been deeply changed by war and displacement, the session provided a safe space to express difficult emotions, build connections with other survivors, and reconnect with the strength, identity, and hope they carried before the war changed their lives.

My name is Sarah Ali, and I am 37 years old. I am the mother of five children, and my eldest is 13 years old.
This is the first time in my life that I have been separated from my husband. We had to leave him behind in Sudan, and for the first time, I am carrying the full responsibility of raising and caring for our children on my own.
The war has affected me emotionally far more than it has financially. The psychological burden has been overwhelming. For a long time, I was terrified every night, struggling with fear and uncertainty. Thankfully, in the past few days, I have started to feel a little better.
Before the war, I worked as a teacher in Sudan for seven years. I loved my profession and the sense of purpose it gave me. Now, I often feel lonely, lost, and as though I have failed, even though I know these feelings are part of the heavy cost of displacement and war. My greatest hope is to rebuild my life, regain my confidence, and create a better future for my children.

World Breastfeeding Week | Supporting Mothers, Promoting Children’s Health
To celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, we organized an awareness event with Sudanese refugee mothers and women in Uganda-Mukono–Seeta. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding and its role in supporting children’s health and growth, while also providing a space for mothers to share their experiences and learn from each other.
Together, we continue to support mothers, promote children’s health, and build more informed and supportive communities.

At TRAID, we continue to support children through the activities included Arabic language sessions to help children stay connected to their mother tongue and cultural identity. We also included light physical exercises to keep them active and encourage teamwork, as well as games and fun activities that gave them space to express themselves, interact with their peers, and enjoy their time.

Voices of Young Refugees
Mustafa (16), Jamal (17), Omar (16), and Muhannad (14)
As young people, we need safe spaces where we can relax, express ourselves, and spend our time in positive ways. We want opportunities to be active, learn, and grow instead of feeling idle or isolated.
We wish there were free football fields where we could play, stay healthy, and enjoy time with our friends. We also hope for places that offer training in new languages and practical skills that can help us build our future.
We know we have potential. What we need is a chance to develop our abilities, gain knowledge, and prepare ourselves for the opportunities ahead. Investing in young people today means investing in a stronger future for our entire community.
