Just in by Uganda Police Force have arrested an additional suspect in connection with the death of Sydney Gongodyo, a professional rugby player, following an incident that occurred on 5 June 2026.

The suspect has been identified as Kabugo Henry, a 21-year-old boda boda rider and resident of Old Kira–Kisenyi.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Kabugo Henry was captured in video footage of the incident wearing a blue reflector jacket and concealing his face with a black hood.

The suspect was arrested in the Wandegeya area of Kampala in a joint operation involving Police and boda boda leadership from Nakawa Division.

This latest arrest brings the total number of suspects currently in custody to eleven (11) as investigations into the alleged mob killing continue.

We commend the boda boda community for its cooperation and support in assisting law enforcement efforts to identify and apprehend those involved in this criminal act.

Efforts remain ongoing to identify, trace, and arrest other individuals believed to have participated in the incident.

The Uganda Police Force remains committed to ensuring that all persons responsible are held accountable and brought before courts of law.

‘First Lady “death” case’: Journalist seeks dismissal over lack of court jurisdiction

Mukose Arnold Anthony, Programmes Director at Digitalk TV / Alternative Digitalk and a media and human rights activist, is charged with sending false distress signals and broadcasting fake news. He has asked the court to dismiss the case, citing ambiguity in the charge sheet. The prosecution failed to disclose the exact area(s) where the alleged offenses are said to have been committed, thereby violating Sections 34 and 35 of the Magistrates Act, Cap. 19.

Even after the prosecution sought leave of court to amend the charge sheet, defense lawyer Kato Tumusiime objected. He argued that after over 2 months of disclosure of evidence, the issue is no longer an omission but an illegality against the accused, which cannot be cured by an amendment.

Even today, prosecution failed to present any witness(s).

The LDC Court, presided over by Magistrate Ivan Maloba, has adjourned to July 13, 2026, for the ruling on the application.
