Not all helmets offer the same level of protection. A certified helmet is designed and tested to reduce the risk of serious head injuries during crashes. Key features include a hard outer shell that spreads impact forces, an energy-absorbing liner that cushions the head by absorbing crash energy and a secure retention system that keeps the helmet firmly in place.
Boda boda riders, your helmet can make the difference between life and death. Always choose a certified helmet that fits properly, covers your head well and has a strong, secure chin strap. Wearing the right helmet every time you ride can significantly reduce the severity of injuries and help save lives on our roads.

Today, Uganda Professional Drivers Network represented by its Executive Director, Omongo Ndugu, and Program Manager, Lawrence Tumwine, attended the ROSACU workshop held at Hotel Africana. The workshop brought together representatives from various road safety organizations to discuss strategies for improving road safety in Uganda.
A key highlight of the workshop was the presentation and discussion of the ROSACU Strategic Plan, which outlines the coalition’s vision, priorities, and roadmap for strengthening road safety advocacy, stakeholder coordination, and evidence-based interventions. Participants reviewed the strategic objectives and shared recommendations on how member organizations can collectively contribute to achieving safer roads and reducing road traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
The workshop also provided an opportunity to discuss the ROSACU Road Safety Campaign and its implementation strategy. Participants explored collaborative approaches to raising public awareness on critical issues such as speed management, helmet use, seatbelt compliance, pedestrian safety, and the protection of vulnerable road users.
Emphasis was placed on strengthening partnerships, enhancing community engagement, advancing policy advocacy, and mobilizing resources to support the campaign’s implementation across the country. The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from participating organizations to work together in advancing Uganda’s road safety agenda and supporting the effective implementation of ROSACU’s strategic priorities.

Even during the ongoing Ebola situation, routine immunization services remain available and should not be missed. Vaccines protect children against serious diseases such as measles, polio and tuberculosis. Keeping immunization appointments helps safeguard your child's health and prevents outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to continue taking their children for scheduled vaccinations without delay.

Ebola is still a public health threat and truck drivers are encouraged to remain vigilant while on the road. Wash your hands frequently with soap and clean water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, especially before eating, after coughing or sneezing, after using the toilet and after touching public surfaces and items.
Drivers are also advised to avoid contact with sick persons, stop unnecessary physical contact and seek immediate medical attention in case of symptoms such as fever, vomiting, bleeding or unexplained weakness. Staying alert helps protect you, your passengers, families and the communities you serve.

Truck drivers and transporters are urged to remain vigilant as Uganda continues efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak. According to President Kaguta Museveni, the country has so far recorded 19 Ebola cases with 14 linked to one family from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The President noted that no new Ebola case had been reported for five days at the time of his address, a positive sign that containment measures may be working.
However, truck drivers are encouraged to stay alert, avoid unnecessary physical contact, maintain proper hygiene and report any suspected symptoms immediately.
Uganda has successfully overcome epidemics such as HIV/AIDS, COVID-19 and previous Ebola outbreaks and collective responsibility remains key in defeating this one as well.

Truck drivers spend long hours on the road, moving through different towns, borders and communities every day. In times of an Ebola outbreak, staying cautious is not only about your safety but also protecting your family waiting for you back home. Avoid close or intimate contact with anyone showing signs of illness and stay alert to unusual symptoms among those you interact with at parking yards, lodges or stop points.
Being responsible can save lives. If you notice a suspected Ebola case, report it immediately and seek guidance from health authorities. Never hide sickness or ignore symptoms while continuing your journey because early reporting helps stop the spread and protects fellow drivers, passengers and loved ones.

Truck drivers and transport workers are encouraged to understand an important fact about Ebola recovery. A person who survives Ebola is tested before returning home to confirm the virus is no longer in their blood. However, male Ebola survivors may still carry the virus in semen for some time after recovery, which is why health experts advise avoiding s*x for six months or consistently and correctly using condoms to prevent possible transmission.
Staying informed helps keep families, co-drivers and communities safe. Do not spread misinformation or stigmatize Ebola survivors but continue following Ministry of Health guidance. If you notice or suspect someone with Ebola symptoms, quickly report through the toll-free line 0800-100-066 or send a free SMS to Ureport on 8500 for immediate support and response.
