GOV'T TO RESTORE KAMPALA'S BUSINESS TRADE ORDER IN 2 WEEKS 06/02/2026

Kampala Minister Minsa Kabanda has given vendors, boda bodas, and taxi drivers a two-week extension to vacate the streets, allowing them to sell off their existing stock. This move aims to help them adjust to the new regulations and relocate to designated areas. The government emphasizes that alternative trading spaces are available in KCCA-managed markets, offering safer and more organized environments.

The directive targets unauthorized street vendors, hawkers, taxi drivers, and boda boda riders operating in key streets and road corridors within the Central Business District (CBD), citing concerns over traffic congestion, pedestrian safety, and public health.

MARRIAGE OF BETRAYAL: MAO LAMENTS NRM'S RUTHLESS ELECTION TACTICS 04/02/2026

MARRIAGE OF BETRAYAL: MAO LAMENTS NRM'S RUTHLESS ELECTION TACTICS

The Democratic Party (DP) did not put up a presidential candidate in the recently concluded elections, simply because DP has had a strong cooperation with the ruling party NRM. However, in the aftermath of the elections, it seems DP didn't get what it had expected, thinking that their cooperation with NRM was to further support it during the election. To the contrary, DP seems to have come out of the elections with only 6 MPs, hence blaming the ruling party NRM for giving them a bloody nose using their tactics.

In a press briefing with journalists on Tuesday morning at DP headquarters in Mengo-Kampala, the President General Hon. Norbert Mao, who doubles as Uganda's Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, highlighted several grievances that affected the party during the elections.

ELECTION AFTERMATH: STAY CALM, GOV'T IS IN CHARGE - BARYOMUNSI ASSURES THE COUNTRY 28/01/2026

ELECTION AFTERMATH: STAY CALM, GOV'T IS IN CHARGE - BARYOMUNSI ASSURES THE COUNTRY

It has been more than a fortnight since Ugandans cast their votes in both presidential and parliamentary polls. However, to onlookers, there seems to be some essence of uncertainty, as some Ugandans were arrested, especially in greater Kampala and other urban centers. This has caused some fear in the public.

Uganda's spokesperson, Minister of Information, Communication Technology, and National Guidance (ICT), Hon. Chris Baryomunsi has come out to clear up some key issues that have been putting the public into a state of panic. Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, 27th January, 2026, at the Uganda Media Centre, the minister reminded citizens that as the country neared the polling dates for presidential and parliamentary elections, cases of indiscipline among some political actors emerged. These actors were provoking police by refusing to follow guidelines given by the Electoral Commission. This indiscipline was largely attributed to the leadership of the National Unity Platform. There were altercations with police and other security agencies whenever such insolence occurred.

Despite this, the elections went on smoothly and as scheduled. The minister said that the country is now at the tail end of the elections and is stable.
