Busia District was curved from Tororo District on 20th March 1997 by an act if Parliament that was operationalized on 1st July 1997.

Vision: A Wealthy,healthy,knowledgeable and self reliant society. Busia District Local Government has 14 Sub counties, 1 Municipality, 2Divisions & 4 town councils.

Day One of the Agricultural Exhibition at Masafu Play Grounds has successfully concluded today with farmers, exhibitors and stakeholders showcasing innovations and opportunities in the agricultural sector.
Tomorrow marks Day Two, with Hon. Amb. Nekesa Barbra expected to officially open the Exhibition. Join us as we continue promoting agriculture for growth and transformation.

A new chapter of leadership has unfolded in Busia Municipality as the Municipality convened council sessions together with the Eastern and Western Divisions to elect their respective Speakers and Deputy Speakers.
Amidst a highly attended and tense sitting at Socal Hall, the Municipal Council elected Hon. Omoit Julius as Speaker and Hon. Mahande Joyce Adongo as Deputy Speaker.
In the Eastern Division, Hon. Wasike Bilal, Councillor for Arubaine A & B and North East A Parish, was elected Speaker, while Awori Lilian, Councillor for Marachi South East Parish, was elected Deputy Speaker.
Meanwhile, the Western Division elected Wanyama Aziz as Speaker and Sampulo Chuchu as Deputy Speaker.
Congratulations to all the elected leaders as they begin their mandate of steering council business and service delivery forward.

The District Council yesterday 22nd May, 2026 convened for an emergency Council Session at the Chango Macho Hall where members unonmously approved the solicitation for a District Service Commission to kick-start the recruitment process and safeguard the available wage allocation from being lost as the the current financial year closes.
During the same sitting, Council approved Hon. Nakwanga Florence, Woman Councilor for Buyanga, Bulumbi and Namungodi Town Council, as the District Vice Chairperson.

Council also approved:
Hon. Ojambo Wycliffe Ssumba, District Councilor for Older Persons, Male as Secretary for Finance, Administration, Audit and Investment and Hon. Okuku Patrick, District Councilor Masinya Sub County as Secretary for Health, Education and Community Based Services
Committee Chairpersons elected included:
Hon. Wakodo Henry, District Councilor Persons With Disabilities, Male – Chairperson Production, Trade and Natural Resources
Hon. Sande John Alex, District Councilor Dabani Sub-County – Chairperson Finance Committee.
Hon. Obonyo Gaitano, District Councilor Busitema Sub-County – Chairperson Social Services Committee.
Hon. Wandera Henry Okuku, District Councilor Majanji Sub-County – Chairperson Works and Technical Services Committee.

Today ChildFund Uganda appreciated 45 pupils (25 girls and 20 boys) form their area of operation who excelled in last year’s PLE examinations.
The learners received school bags, mattresses and assorted scholastic materials as a motivation for their outstanding performance and encouragement to continue striving for academic excellence.
The items were handed over to the beneficiaries at the District Headquarters by the District Education Officer, Wanyama Anthony and a team of Inspectors.
This support is a great boost towards promoting education and inspiring more learners to work hard for a brighter future.

The previous day at Chango Macho Hall, World Vision Uganda. disseminated the Partners Performance Health Check Tool to District officials as part of strengthening collaboration and accountability in service delivery.
The tool helps to assess the mutual working relationship between partners, ensuring that engagements remain fair, respectful, transparent and effectively aligned towards the shared goal of improving the well-being of children and the entire community.
Together, we will continue to build stronger partnerships for sustainable development and a better future for all.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Oluka Peter, Senior Physical Planner, Busia Municipal Council.
We continue to grief together Busia Municipal Council and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Recently we held a fruitful community engagement with the Abamanyi Clan leaders focused on promoting the historic Ademba Tree as a potential tourism site. In the discussion highlights were on the importance of preserving cultural heritage, boosting local tourism, and creating opportunities for community development through cultural and eco-tourism initiatives.
As we initiatiate these community engagements we commit to continue to championing the conservation of our heritage for future generations.
