Community Development Watch (CODEWA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering children and youth to learn, grow, and thrive. Founded in 2015, CODEWA works to break cycles of poverty and inequality through education, health, mentorship, and environmental stewardship. We believe that every child deserves a fair chance to dream boldly a

nd achieve their potential — regardless of background or circumstance. From classrooms to communities, our programs open doors to opportunity and build pathways to lifelong success. By engaging families, schools, and local leaders, CODEWA ensures that young people receive the holistic support they need to grow confidently and contribute meaningfully to society. Our Inspiration
In many Tanzanian communities, education is still seen as a privilege rather than a right. Poverty, gender stereotypes, and limited access to opportunity continue to hold back children — especially girls and those from rural areas. Yet at CODEWA, we see beyond these challenges. We see potential, resilience, and dreams waiting to unfold. Our inspiration comes from the belief that education is the most powerful tool for change — a bridge to equality, dignity, and hope. Too many families still struggle to keep their children in school or access basic healthcare and nutrition. We stand with them, helping transform barriers into pathways. Through our initiatives, we work to shift mindsets and empower communities to view education not as a privilege for a few, but as a shared responsibility for all. By nurturing confidence, leadership, and lifelong learning, CODEWA equips young people — especially girls — with the skills and courage to shape their own futures and create lasting change in their communities. As a non-profit organization focused on inclusive social progress, CODEWA follows a robust system of governance. Our Board of Directors provides strategic direction, upholds our mission, and ensures accountability and transparency in all operations. The Executive Secretary leads day-to-day management, program implementation, and partnership coordination. CODEWA’s structure includes dedicated teams in program design, administration, fundraising, communications, and project support — all working hand in hand to maximize social impact and uphold the trust placed in us by our communities and partners. Ten years ago, educators in Tanzania started CODEWA with two students and a portion of their own salary. Today, that work has a home on the internet.

It is the story of children who were told the world had no space for them and the decade of refusing to accept that. The education, the health, the mentorship, the Girls' Digital Hub, the trees, the classrooms we transformed.

It is also the story of where we are going 500,000 young people across Tanzania by 2030.

Last weekend CODEWA joined a capacity building training for small and emerging NGOs in Tabora Municipality and we left more inspired than when we walked in.

Organised by NaCoNGO Tabora Region, NaCoNGO Tabora Municipality, and the Office of the Assistant Registrar of NGOs the training brought passionate community leaders together to learn about NGO Compliance and Funding Readiness.

Our Executive Secretary Sadath A Mwamsema had the honour of facilitating and the energy in that room was unforgettable.
Strong NGOs build strong communities. Thank you to every organisation that showed up. Your commitment to your communities is seen and it deserves to be funded. 🙏

A Second Chance has a New Home in Tabora! 💻✨

This Monday, we didn't just open a room; we opened a world of possibilities.

In alignment with national efforts to ensure no child is left behind, we are proud to provide the specialized digital bridge these young women need to thrive in the modern economy.

We are overjoyed to announce the official launch of the Girls’ Digital Access & Skills Hub (GDASH)! 🚀 a major step forward in our mission to bridge the digital divide for marginalized young women.

With 10 high-quality workstations now humming with energy, our first cohort of brave young women is beginning a journey that will take them from the sidelines to the digital frontline. They aren’t just learning to use computers; they are learning to lead in AI, Graphic Design, and Coding.

This is more than a lab. It is a "second chance" engine where stigma ends and self-reliance begins.

🌍CODEWA Empowers Students at Maximilian College During the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

As part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, CODEWA—together with the Tabora Municipal Council (through the Mpera Ward Executive Office) and local partners including Tabora Integrated Women Organization (TIWO), Be Enlightened Foundation, and KKT—conducted an impactful awareness and empowerment session at Maximilian College, Tabora.

Over 200 students participated in interactive sessions addressing gender-based violence, online harassment, and steps to access support services. Students were also empowered to become ambassadors for positive digital practices and safe online engagement.

The theme for this year, “Joining Forces to End Online Gender-Based Violence,” reflects CODEWA’s commitment to protecting young people, fostering responsible online behavior, and promoting gender equality in the community.

Through initiatives like this, CODEWA not only raises awareness but also builds the capacity of youth to become proactive leaders in ending gender-based violence — creating a ripple effect that extends to families and communities.
