Resourcing Women and Girls: Shifting Power, Re imagining Funding

WiLDAF, together with our partner Her Initiative, joined global conversations in Geneva not simply to observe, but to challenge systems and advocate for transformative change in how women's rights movements are funded.

Bringing together over 40 funders, grassroots leaders, and partners, the convening amplified the voices of women leaders from Kenya, Malawi, and Tanzania who shared lived realities and solutions from the communities they serve.

The discussions confronted critical truths often left unsaid:
• Funding too often follows familiarity rather than impact.
• Credibility is frequently defined by systems rather than communities.
• Less than 1% of global funding reaches women and girls' rights organizations.

As we continue advancing gender justice, these conversations reinforce the urgent need to shift power, increase direct investment in grassroots movements, and create funding models that are accessible, equitable, and responsive to the needs of women and girls.

We remain committed to building partnerships and unlocking opportunities that strengthen women-led organizations and drive lasting change.

- Prisca Ngweshemi

“Hatuwezi kujenga movement imara k**a sisi wenyewe tumechoka.”
