On May 30th, the tassel-turning ceremony for the 2026 academic year graduates of the College of Communication at National Chengchi University was held in the College's theater.
In her remarks, our Dean Hsiu-Hui (Shirley) encouraged the graduates, “in an age of rapid development of AI and other technologies, it is the most important to know who you are.”
She stressed that communication education is not just about learning video production or digital analytics — but about cultivating the ability to understand oneself, others, and society. Only with such insights and empathy can one make meaningful judgments in a complex world.
Graduation is not an ending, but another beginning of a wonderful journey.
Best wishes to all our graduates. We hope you will, with your professionalism, passion, and courage, continue to shine on your own stages!

Three decades of collaboration, friendship, and groundbreaking research! 🎓
This year, the University of Tokyo, National Chengchi University, and Seoul National University are celebrating a massive milestone by returning to the theme that started it all in 1996: “The Frontline of Communication Research.”
Today, we are asking: What actually counts as the "frontline" of our field in an era dominated by AI, digital platforms, data infrastructures, geopolitical tensions, and environmental crises?
We invite MA/PhD students and researchers to submit abstracts exploring how shifting media environments are reshaping our social relations, political participation, and scholarly practices.
Don't miss the chance to present your work on a global stage and connect with peers from Tokyo, Taipei, and Seoul!
📅 Symposium Dates: October 24 (Sat) – 25 (Sun), 2026
📍Venue: University of Tokyo, Hongo Campus 🇯🇵
Submission Deadline: July 1, 2026, by 5:00 PM
How to Apply: Email an abstract of max. 500 words to [email protected]. Template on our website

Making a mark, marking the margins
How does the media we consume every day shape our fundamental understanding of people and reality? We are honored to welcome Dr. Alwin Aguirre from the University of the Philippines Diliman for a compelling talk on the intersection of meaning, affect, and materiality in media engagement.
Using specific examples from the Philippines, Dr. Aguirre will challenge us to question whether media representation can ever be truly fair for minorities and the marginalized. This is a must-attend session for anyone interested in social science, communication ethics, and global discourse.
