Only a fraction of marks is awarded for getting the final answer correct. Understanding mark schemes allow students to be aware of what examiners expect.
Examples: using a large triangle to determine the gradient of a graph, stating the assumptions made in given situation and substituting values correctly into a formula.

She developed the theory of radioactivity, discovered 2 elements (polonium and radium) and conducted the very first studies where tumors were treated with radiation. Unfortunately, she died from aplastic anemia from exposure to radiation.
