This is one of our favorite towns in France. It’s a 2.5 hour drive from Paris, famous for horse racing and an amazing beach promenade. But what we really like about it are the half-timbered houses which really look like they’ve come out of a fairytale book.

Incidentally, the charming Deauville Barriere hotel is here, very Great Gatsby in feel, as is the site of Coco Chanel’s first store.

Istanbul is a city we can walk around in with our eyes closed. We’ve probably been at least 30 times, and the first time was several lifetimes ago, when walking through Istanbul felt like stepping right onto a page in the Bible. It’s very different and modern now, but it’s beautiful just the same.

This is one of our favorite cities and we have so many memories of happy summers (and one winter) spent here.

On our last visit, we spent six glorious days walking the entire city in the day and sitting by the rivers and in parks at night, enjoying the play of lights on its dramatic architecture.

Our favorite place for summer, aside from being in Granada. The surroundings are simply surreal. It’s like being on another planet, only with colorful box houses and amazingly good food.

One of our last trips before the world closed down was a in in late February 2020. The very last lodge we stayed at was also the most memorable, built and run by a Masai tribe. It was beautiful, authentic and unforgettable.

The Chedi Katara Resort in Doha opens next year and we can’t wait to stay there. Notice the distinctive features and elegant details of its grand lobby.
