Something I really wanted to do in Japan was go to an Omakase dinner. It translates to βIβll leave it up to you,β where you entrust the chef to curate a multi-course meal using the freshest ingredients they have at that moment. These dinners often take place over 1.5-3 hours as the chef prepares 10-20 different courses as one perfect bite per guest.
We simply ran out of time in Japan, thereβs just so much to see and do, and itβs something I WILL do when I return. If you watch my stories Iβve been grasping on to anything Japanese related as I miss this country so damn much. So as Iβm spending Christmas week in Houston, we decided to check out a very highly rated Omakase restaurant , that offered a smaller happy hour version that was also a fraction of the cost with 9 courses.
In order served:
- Tempura pumpkin
- Daikon wrapped salad
- Chili clementine yellowtail
- Ginger citrus striped bass
- Tasmanian ocean trout nigiri
- Strawberry chimichurri salmon
- Oak grilled ginger and candied citrus escolar
- Grilled Japanese eggplant nigiri with lemon curd
- Coconut tapioca with blueberries, hazelnut, and lychee sorbet
We ordered two additional bites off the regular non happy hour menu:
- Korean mint fried chicken
- Sous-vide shallot wagyu
Pretty sure the striped bass was the best piece of raw fish Iβve ever had. And I hate eggplant and this dish totally changed my mind.
Sharing for those ever visiting Houston and want a bougie dinner on a budget ππΌ
