There are 3 essential macrame cords, although you can use any type of cord you want. Knowing what type of cord to use is something you learn with practice and ruining some pieces 😄 so imtoday I hope I can help you skip that part.

Single twist cord (2nd photo)
It's a simple type of cord, made of many strands and just one twist that keeps the cord together. It's great for wallhangings, things that doesn't have too much contact. It's perfect for tassels.

Rope, or 3 stranded cord (3rd photo)
it's a heavier type of cord and keeps its structure. It's suitable for most designs and makes them more durable.

Braided cord (4th photo)
It's a cord braided on the outside and with a center made of cotton. It's super durable and it's great for bags, makes items washable and resistent.
