A coalition of activists, Lawyers for Palestine and the Sign for Palestine initiative, presented a petition to the UN in Chile, backed by around 80,000 signatures from citizens worldwide, calling for stronger international action against Israel over war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

They delivered the appeal at the UN’s ECLAC office and urged the UN Secretary-General to activate Article 99 of the UN Charter, which allows him to bring urgent threats to peace before the Security Council.

The petition argues that the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory has reached an unprecedented level of humanitarian crisis and calls for international mechanisms that could include suspension or expulsion of Israel from the UN.
