Big moment for Similie: our CEO Paula Xavier took part in the ASEAN-India Scale Hub, held in Bali from 15 to 17 July 2026.

The programme brought together over 350 people, including 70+ growth-stage scale-ups from across ASEAN and India, plus investors, policymakers, and tech partners. Three days of business matchmaking, pitches, workshops, and conversations about AI, digital transformation, and scaling across the region. This year the focus was squarely on growth-stage and deep-tech companies building AI-driven solutions.

Paula pitched Similie in front of the full room of 350+ participants. And she came home with a win: Impact Creator category, shared with Akaiin from the Philippines.

This one belongs to the whole Similie team, and to the communities across Timor-Leste who put their trust in our work every day. We're proud to represent Timor-Leste on this stage, and we're hoping this is the first of many.

The training brought together 𝟐𝟏 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 (𝟏𝟓 𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟔 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧), including smallholder farmers and community representatives from different villages. Throughout the training, participants strengthened their understanding of 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 (𝐄𝐖𝐒) and learned how digital tools such as 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐌𝐒 𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐬 can help communities prepare for climate-related hazards before disasters occur. Through interactive group discussions, practical demonstrations, message interpretation exercises, and presentations, participants gained valuable knowledge and confidence in interpreting weather alerts and responding appropriately.

Participants shared their experiences with heavy rain, floods, strong winds, and changing weather. They learned how Early Warning System (EWS) alerts can help them prepare early, protect their crops, and stay safe during extreme weather.

Through hands-on activities, participants also learned how to read and understand warning messages sent by 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐌𝐒. With practice, they became more confident in using the system.

Most importantly, participants acknowledged that the Early Warning System is more than just a technology platform, it is a powerful tool that strengthens community preparedness, promotes the sharing of reliable climate information, and supports safer, more resilient farming communities.

Together, we are helping communities build a safer and more climate-resilient future.

Recently in April 2026, Similie, together with our partners, brought local communities, government institutions, and youth organizations together for a series of impactful trainings and milestones focused on the 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, and the 𝐈𝐧𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐉𝐕 𝐆𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐨 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

During the Early Warning System Training, we welcomed 27 participants—20 men and 7 women—from CVTL, GJE, TILOFE, FJDTL, Fonak, AKER, AME, SEPAT, CMS-HHAC, and local schools. Through group presentations and alert message interpretation exercises, participants learned how to read and respond to early warning alerts, connecting real experiences of floods, heavy rainfall, and changing seasons with practical tools to help their communities prepare and stay safe.

The 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 gave participants the opportunity to explore the causes of water shortages and drought, and why conservation is important for communities where children sometimes miss school just to collect water. Through engaging group discussions and hands-on field activities, participants built stone barriers, dug infiltration trenches, and planted trees around local spring sites, gaining practical skills to protect their land and water resources for future generations.

The training series concluded with the 𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐉𝐕 𝐆𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐨 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, a valuable resource that will continue supporting climate resilience and strengthening the livelihoods of farmers and communities for years to come.

Through consultations, site assessments, and collaboration, we have successfully installing early warning systems and climate monitoring technology in three key locations: 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐨 (𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐡𝐢), 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐢 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐮, 𝐧𝐨 𝐆𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐨 (𝐄𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐚), in close collaboration with local partners 𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐎𝐅𝐄 in Ermera municipality and Group Soruk in Manufahi municipality.

These systems provide real-time climate data and early warnings, helping farmers make informed decisions, reduce risks from extreme weather, and improve agricultural productivity. Our team continues to deliver training and support to ensure communities can fully benefit from these tools.

This initiative is about empowering communities, strengthening resilience, and building a more climate-ready future for farmers in Timor-Leste.
