The Country Most Obsessed with Thailand: Cambodia

When a country has no laws or real respect for copyright and the work of others, copying eventually becomes so deeply normalized that its people start mistaking imitation for identity. With little knowledge of their own culture and history, they simply take what belongs to others, copy it, and then proudly claim it as their own.

What is even more shocking is that various Cambodian institutions, including its leaders, appear to be working together to appropriate Thai culture simply because they believe Cambodia has a longer history than Thailand, while completely disregarding records left by foreign diplomats who documented the cultures of both countries throughout different periods of history.

Cambodia not only refuses to acknowledge these records, but also dismisses accounts from foreign diplomats as fake. The only thing they seem to trust is what is depicted on the walls of Angkor Wat, which was originally a Hindu temple. Yet even those carvings cannot provide clear accounts of specific events or historical circumstances. Much of the narrative is based on interpretations and imagination by people who may not fully understand the original meaning, which is then passed down and taught to future generations of Cambodians.

I sincerely hope Cambodia’s education system improves in the future. Countries with long-standing civilizations understand and respect the principles of intellectual property, copyright, and the importance of not simply copying what belongs to others.

🇰🇭 | Cambodian Thieves Caught Stealing 20 Motorcycles in Thailand Smuggled Across Border for Sale in Cambodia

August 12, 2026 — Rayong, Thailand: Police in Rayong have arrested four Cambodian nationals, 3 men and 1 woman, for allegedly operating a motorcycle theft ring that targeted residential communities across several districts and smuggled the stolen vehicles across the border to Cambodia for resale.

Police also seized 10 stolen motorcycles during the operation. The suspects allegedly targeted specific popular motorcycle models, particularly those in high demand in Cambodia. At a press conference held at Wang Chan Police Station in Rayong Province, Pol. Col. Torsak Sareerat, Deputy Commander of the Rayong Provincial Police, announced the arrests and the seizure of the stolen motorcycles.

According to Pol. Col. Torsak, at approximately midnight on July 27, 2026, three suspects identified as Thanai Ko, Mike, and Kuy allegedly stole a Honda Giorno that had been parked in front of a rental room in Village No. 1, Chum Saeng Subdistrict. At approximately 3:00 a.m. on August 9, the same three suspects allegedly attempted to steal a Honda PCX. However, the owner heard the sound of the door being opened and came outside to investigate, causing the suspects to flee without taking the motorcycle. The suspects allegedly struck again at approximately 8:00 p.m. on August 10, stealing another Honda Giorno from in front of a rental room in Village No. 2, Phlong Ta Iam Subdistrict.

Police reviewed CCTV footage along the suspects’ escape routes and eventually identified them as Cambodian nationals staying in rented accommodation at Chum Saeng Market, along the Wang Chan–Khao Chamao Road. Officers subsequently searched the premises and arrested the suspects. A total of 10 motorcycles believed to have been stolen were found. Police said members of the gang would subsequently collect the stolen motorcycles and transport them to Cambodia for resale. The motorcycles were reportedly sold for approximately 15,000–110,000 baht per vehicle. Police later tracked down and arrested another Cambodian national, identified as Slae, who was allegedly involved in purchasing the stolen motorcycles.

According to investigators, the gang was led by a Cambodian national identified as Tai. Police said Tai had previously been arrested and imprisoned but allegedly resumed criminal activities after his release, recruiting accomplices to steal motorcycles based on orders from buyers in Cambodia. The gang allegedly focused primarily on Honda PCX motorcycles, which are reportedly popular and in high demand in Cambodia. Police have issued arrest warrants for Tai and Chin, who remain at large. Authorities are continuing efforts to locate and apprehend them. Investigators also found that the gang allegedly used specialized equipment to steal the motorcycles. Police said Tai obtained some of the equipment from Cambodia, including remote-control devices, programming boxes and other tools used to facilitate the thefts. Some of the equipment could reportedly be purchased at general markets. To date, police have seized a total of 20 motorcycles and arrested six suspects in connection with the investigation. Authorities said they will coordinate with border checkpoints and increase surveillance and inspections to prevent the stolen motorcycles from being smuggled across the border into Cambodia.

Tin New 24h, Vietnamese media outlets and social media pages have been reporting that Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his unwillingness to support Cambodia, citing Cambodia’s past relations and actions toward Russia and countries that had previously provided assistance.

According to the reports, Putin allegedly described Cambodia as a country that is “ungrateful” and compared it to someone who “eats the meal and then kicks away the bowl.” The reports also claim that Cambodia had previously taken an adversarial stance toward Russia and had even considered taking action against Putin in an attempt to please the United States.

The reports have since been circulated across multiple platforms. Some sources identified the story as originating from Vietnamese local media on August 20, 2026

🇰🇭 | Why the Kouprey is Cambodia’s National Animal ? 🐃

The Kouprey (Bos sauveli) is a large wild bovine native to mainland Southeast Asia. It is known for its tall body, long legs, and large horns, especially in males.

Historically, Kouprey were found across parts of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam, living mainly in open forests, grasslands, and areas near water.

However, Cambodia has a particularly important connection to the Kouprey. Some of the most important early records and specimens of the species came from Cambodia, especially from the northern part of the country.

🇰🇭 The Kouprey and Cambodia

The Kouprey became scientifically known in the 1930s.

In 1936, French veterinarian Dr. René Sauvel captured a young male Kouprey in northern Cambodia. The animal was later taken to the Vincennes Zoo near Paris, France, where it was studied.

In 1937, French zoologist Achille Urbain formally described the Kouprey as a new species and gave it the scientific name Bos sauveli, honoring Dr. Sauvel.

The name “Kouprey” itself comes from the Khmer language and refers to a wild ox, further reflecting the animal’s long association with Cambodia.

🇰🇭 Why Is the Kouprey Cambodia’s National Animal?

The Kouprey was chosen as Cambodia’s national animal because it was regarded as an important part of the country’s natural heritage.

Its strength, endurance, and ability to survive in Cambodia’s harsh natural environment were associated with qualities such as strength, perseverance, resilience, and determination.

The Kouprey was also considered a particularly valuable symbol because it was already a rare and distinctive wild animal of Cambodia and mainland Southeast Asia.

During the 1960s, under King Norodom Sihanouk, the Kouprey was designated as Cambodia’s national animal and became an important symbol of the country’s natural heritage.

Later, on 21 March 2005, a Royal Decree formally designated the Kouprey (Bos sauveli) as the National Mammal of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Thus, the Kouprey was chosen not simply because it was a wild animal found in Cambodia, but because it represented Cambodia’s unique natural heritage, strength, resilience, and connection to its wildlife. 🐃 🇰🇭
