[INTERVIEW] [THEATRE] [Turning Audiences Into Accomplices: An Interview with director Tracie Pang, and cast members Coco Wang Ling and Ghafir Akbar on Pangdemonium’s ‘A Mirror’] Now out on Bakchormeeboy.com. “The urgency of those questions is reflected in the production’s rhythm, where there is no intermission at all, and you’re locked in with the cast for 150 minutes. “If you put an interval in, it breaks the conceit of the piece,” says Ghafir. “It’s supposed to feel like a pressure cooker and needs to stay closed long enough to cook. If you open it too early, it just doesn’t work, while balancing an urgency in telling this story as quickly as possible.”

That also ultimately extends beyond the stage. “I don’t think audience responsibility ends,” Tracie says. “Theatre is a live, breathing thing, and that’s what makes it different from film or TV. No two shows are ever identical. That’s the nature of human beings telling stories.”

[INTERVIEW] [THEATRE] [An Interview with director Feroz J. Malik on The Winter Players’ chilling adaptation of Agatha Christie’s ‘And Then There Were None’] Read now on Bakchormeeboy.com. “I would personally find it a profound honour to have our shows be simply marked in memory. Theatre seasons come and go, and the companies will continue their eternal dance to fill their halls. In all of that it would be quite heartening to know that we did something that people will remember to be unique, that was not simply part of that cycle. We will not stop making theatre. Marwyn and I always have a dozen shows in our to-do list and discuss endlessly about our upcoming seasons. We have no shortage of dream plays to put up, and we only hope that we will be able to keep this up for as long as possible.” And Then There Were None plays from 25th to 28th June 2026 at the KC Arts Centre. [REVIEW] [MUSIC] [Ray Chen – Violin Recital (Singapore)] Now out on Bakchormeeboy.com. “The audience itself reflected that shift. It was younger and more diverse than what classical recitals often draw, and the energy in the room felt closer to a shared experience than a formal event. By combining serious musicianship with a relaxed, engaging presentation style, Chen showed why he connects so easily with audiences beyond the traditional concert-going base. It was more than an impressive recital; it was also one that felt accessible without losing its artistic weight.”

[REVIEW] [THEATRE] [★★★★☆ GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS by Wild Rice] Now out on Bakchormeeboy.com. “Deonn and Alfian’s living-room theatre or in this case, Nest, invites audiences to be at home – to embrace what we know, to learn more than we do or to simply sit with what we are uncomfortable with. Listening to the stories, Deonn has created an atmosphere of community where we, the audience, are learning alongside the actors in real-time; where the authenticity of the text is given space to resonate into every body. It is with this humility and willingness to both educate and be educated that blurs the boundaries between audience and performer, straight and q***r, young and old. It is precisely this humility that towards the end of the play, allows us to see the actors, with no supplementary costumes, as not just a generic ‘girls, girls, girls’, but singular humans carrying their own stories – as we all are. “

[REVIEW] [THEATRE] [The Trials by SRT’s The Young Company] Read now on Bakchormeeboy.com. “Ultimately, The Trials can feel repetitive and occasionally more didactic than dramatically compelling. Yet as both a training vehicle and a cautionary tale, it achieves much of what it sets out to do. Much of that credit belongs to Jenkins, whose direction successfully navigates the difficult demands of the piece while ensuring each performer has room to contribute. His programme note describes the director’s role as creating the conditions in which young actors can shine, and by that measure this production is undoubtedly successful. And if King’s script does not always match the complexity of the issues it raises, those issues remain urgent enough to linger long after the verdict has been delivered. More than a dystopian downer, The Trials serves as a warning about the future we may yet create, and a reminder of who will ultimately inherit it.” Photo Credit: Singapore Repertory Theatre

Theatre Review: The Trials by SRT’s The Young Company

Timely dystopian climate-change play sees children inherit a broken planet and the power to decide who pays for it. Dawn King's The Trials imagines a near future in which the climate crisis has passed the point of no return. The air is barely breathable, natural disasters are commonplace, and resources are increasingly scarce. In response, society has turned to a radical form of justice: children now sit in judgment over the generation that came before them....
