Thailand's NBTC held a formal public consultation on 29 May 2026 on the rights, licensing, and use of new satellite technologies. The hearing brought together international and domestic stakeholders — including Amazon's LEO division, Eutelsat OneWeb, Viasat, and Sateliot on the international side, alongside Thai industry players from NT, ThaiCom, AIS, and Skylo.
The consultation covered three areas: satellite orbit usage rights, expanding the number of satellite operators licensed to serve Thailand, and opening ground station licensing to the private sector — currently restricted to state enterprises.
For equipment manufacturers, this development matters beyond the satellite sector itself. As new satellite operators enter the Thai market, demand for certified ground-segment equipment — terminals, modems, and gateway hardware — is expected to grow. NBTC will need to develop or adapt technical standards and certification requirements for these product categories as the framework matures.

The FCC published a final rule on 15 May 2026 — effective 15 June 2026 — creating a priority fast-track review process for devices tested at "Trusted Test Labs." The rule defines Trusted Test Labs as laboratories located in the United States or in a country that has a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) or equivalent trade agreement with the US.
An accompanying proposed rule goes further: it would stop the FCC from recognising test results from laboratories in countries without such reciprocal agreements.
For manufacturers targeting both the US and Thai markets, this creates a lab selection consideration on the FCC side: a device tested in Thailand — which has no MRA with the US — would not qualify for fast-track FCC review under this framework.
On the NBTC side, the criteria are different. What determines whether an overseas test report qualifies for Thailand certification is ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation scope and whether the report references NBTC-recognised standards — not whether the lab is in an MRA country. The two programmes run in parallel with separate requirements.

Any device that uses radio communication in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bands in Thailand — Wi-Fi routers, access points, IoT modules, smart home hubs — must comply with NBTC TS 1035-2562, the technical standard for radio communication equipment using the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
The standard covers four frequency sub-bands: 2.400–2.500 GHz, 5.150–5.350 GHz, 5.470–5.725 GHz, and 5.725–5.850 GHz. Most Wi-Fi and RLAN devices qualify for SDoC — Supplier's Declaration of Conformity — which is the most straightforward certification route for this product category.
NBTC TS 1035-2562 explicitly accepts EN 300 328, EN 301 893, and FCC Part 15.247/15.407 as recognised standards, depending on the frequency band. This means existing FCC or CE test reports can be used for most devices — provided the issuing laboratory holds ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and its scope specifically covers the standards referenced in the report.

A Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) creates a direct communication channel between the human brain and external devices — enabling control through neural signals alone, without any physical movement or voice input.
Two main approaches:
Non-invasive BCI — wearable EEG sensors placed on the scalp. Safe, removable, and actively developed for enterprise training, gaming, and consumer applications. Signal quality is lower but the barrier to deployment is minimal.

Mixed Reality Devices in Thailand: What NBTC Approval Do You Actually Need?
Mixed Reality (MR) headsets like HoloLens and Vision Pro are multi-radio devices — combining Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and in some models cellular. Each radio technology requires its own NBTC certification before the device can be legally imported or sold in Thailand.
The good news: NBTC issues a single certificate covering all technologies in one device. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth qualify for SDoC (~1 week). If the device also includes LTE/5G, the whole unit moves to Class B (~6 weeks) — but only one application is submitted.

RLAN vs. Wi-Fi: Why the Distinction Matters in Regulation
RLAN (Radio Local Area Network) is the technical and regulatory term for short-range wireless networking via radio frequency. In everyday life we call it Wi-Fi — but in official frameworks, RLAN is what appears in law.
