HFS lab members attended IEEE APS distinguished lecture by Prof. Zhongxiang Shen on March 26th, 2026 at our university KMUTNB. The topics of compact, wideband antenna and frequency selective, angle selective, power level selective metastructures aligned excellently with our lab's activities and interest. Prof. Shen's lectures are very inspiring and crystal clear. Teaching is a very crucial element of scientific research. Great lectures inspire young scientists and remind them about the pleasure of their research area. We would like to thank IEEE APS for enabling the distinguished lectures and iDEMT, KMUTNB and IEEE MTT/AP Thailand section for the organization of such a wonderful event.
The most important product of our lab is the future of our people.

Once HFS, always HFS
Today Dr. Ake Apichart, the R&D Manager of Thai Technoglass Group PLC visited HFS lab to discuss participation in a research exhibition from the Glassense project. Dr. Apichart is alumnus of our HFS lab who brought the glass-based electronics as a great research topic to our lab. Glassense proposes an innovative way to integrate smart sensors in laminated glass panels enabling exciting applications for smart cities. Countless publications of our lab in the past recent years originate from this project with many Alumni graduated their master's and PhD degrees.
We are pleased to keep collaborating with Dr. Apichart in the future.

Digitizing Unknown Liquids – A Game Changer for Chemical, Food, and Medical Laboratories
At HFS, we are committed to developing affordable material and liquid characterization tools for chemical, food, environmental, and medical laboratories. Our platform is based on a cavity resonator — a well-established technique in the microwave engineering community. While cavity resonators are familiar tools in RF and microwave research, applying them to chemical, biological, and food laboratories opens up exciting new possibilities. What is conventional in microwave engineering can be transformative in other scientific fields.
Importantly, 3D printing technology and low cost measurement equipment make this innovation flexible and scalable. Additive manufacturing enables rapid prototyping of customized resonator structures, reduces fabrication costs, and allows seamless integration with standard lab equipment such as centrifuge tubes, test tubes, and common laboratory glassware.
Our technology enables researchers to:
• Measure concentration levels
• Monitor chemical reactions in real time
• Assess food quality
• Track cell growth in culture wells
The system is easy to use and highly adaptable across a wide range of applications. This publication is the result of collaborative research supported by a PhD scholarship from NSTDA and KMUTNB.

Our sincere thanks to our PhD scholar and all co-authors for their valuable contributions. If you are interested in collaboration or exploring applications for your laboratory, please feel free to contact us.
Special thanks to CADFEM Thailand, our industrial partner, for sponsoring the Ansys HFSS license that supported this research.
Ethanol Concentration Sensing Using a 3D-Printed Microwave Cavity Resonator This work presents microwave sensing of ethanol concentration in ethanol–water mixtures using a low-cost 3D-printed cavity resonator. The objective is to realize a customizable liquid sensor that combines high measurement accuracy with inexpensive, in-house fabrication. The cylindrical cavity is f...

Old tradition, new faces.
Every Friday after our lab meeting, we continue the HFS lab tradition of taking turns to host lunch for the team. With many PhD students graduating last semester—and a few more this semester—it truly feels like a season of transition.
We’re delighted to welcome our new master’s students, Kyaw and Kaung, as the newest members of the HFS lab.
Today, we were also honored to host Khun Jitsupa from Dexon Technology, who joined us to discuss potential joint research collaborations on Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) for oil and gas pipelines. Dexon is an impressive technology company based in Rayong, Thailand, with outstanding international R&D teams—a true hidden gem of Thai industry.
We’re very much looking forward to working together in the near future!
