With white paper and black ink, Ding Min depicts the world of “Yōkai,” entities rooted in Japanese belief that there is a spirit dwelling in all things. Intertwined with her personal narratives on life, work, relationships, and her take on spirituality, many tales are told through her drawings resembling panel comics, mostly in one-panel format. They could be viewed as a sizable collection of her practice over the years, open for the audience to interpret, finding their version of story within.

In the “River > Birth” exhibition, Thirasak contemplates on multiple elements of nature, primarily the river. As water is mostly known as the giver of life, flower and moss, closely related to water, are there to represent the life. And as there is life, there is death, Thirasak’s works explore into the cycle of life and the impermanence of all things, revisiting one of the discourses rooted in Buddhism.

As time flies by, Mango Art Festival 2026 had happened on March 4-8. The art fair let us witness the changes in the Thai art market as well as the gradual development of the art fair itself.

The first thing to be recognized is the absence of art toys, although not entirely, depends on how you define what they are. This could either mean the trend has ended, or they are not quite fitted in an art fair.

Another thing is that, this time, there are many recognizable faces, both artists and curators who have been around for quite some time, particularly in the curated section. There are also some sizable artworks. This shows how the goal of becoming more than a trading event has started to take serious root and is going in a promising direction.

Like any art fairs with the main goal of selling and buying artworks, painting, sculpture, and print remain the dominant categories, as they are highly collectible. But what matters is the quality of the artworks and the consistency of the artist in developing their practice and career. Likely, this is how we differentiate those who only pass by and those who stay.
