Today, our lab encountered a synthetic sapphire with some interesting and less-common features.
Under the spectroscope, the stone showed an iron (Fe) absorption band, which can appear in Fe-rich synthetic sapphires even though many synthetics typically show weaker Fe features.
Under short-wave UV, the stone was inert, whereas many Verneuil synthetics usually display a chalky blue fluorescence. The lack of reaction is consistent with higher iron content, which suppresses UV fluorescence.
Each gemstone has its own story, and our job is to reveal it with precise analysis and transparent reporting.
