Molly’s Steps In as ABC Netball Academy Receives E10 000 Boost

It was a moment of joy and renewed belief for the young athletes of ABC Netball Academy when Molly’s House of Grills stepped forward with a timely and meaningful gesture. The Eswatini-owned restaurant based at Checkers Business Park handed over a full netball kit along with 30 netballs an investment worth E10 000 breathing new life into the academy’s growing ambitions.

Behind the donation lies a deeper purpose. Speaking on behalf of Afrotim Group, Larry Mhlanga shared that the initiative is rooted in the company’s commitment to uplifting communities, particularly the girl-child. He reflected on how the promise of the kit had already inspired the team weeks earlier, pushing them to secure a crucial victory when it mattered most. Now, that promise has been fulfilled, reinforcing the belief that support and opportunity can go hand in hand.

For the academy, the journey has never been walked alone. Training sessions at Coronation Park, made possible by the Mbabane City Council, have provided more than just a venue—they have offered a safe space where dreams take shape. The role of parents, too, has remained invaluable, standing firmly behind their children as they chase their aspirations on the court.

Since its establishment in 2021 and official launch in 2024 ABC Netball Academy has quietly built a culture centered on growth, discipline, and purpose. With a focus on developing not only skilled players but well-rounded individuals, the academy continues to shape a new generation ready to carry the future of netball in Eswatini.

This latest sponsorship is more than just equipment it is a statement of belief. And as Director and Coach Nkabinde Shabalala sees it , it is also a call to action. With greater corporate support the dream of transforming netball into a professional and thriving sport in the country may no longer feel distant but within reach.

ABC Netball Academy Senior Team

Our Story as ABC Academy:

- *2022-2023 season:* We started a new team composed of Form 1 high school students and joined the Regional League, Mbabane Zone. It was a tough beginning as we lost all our games, but it was a valuable learning experience.

- *2023-2024 season:* We bounced back strongly, dominating our Zone and eventually the entire region. This success earned us promotion to the elite league.

- *2024-2025 season:* I took a group of 15 girls, averaging 17 years old, into the elite league—essentially swimming with sharks. Some matches were challenging, with losses as wide as 98-12. I reminded the girls that this was part of a five-year development program focused on gaining experience. We finished the season 7th out of 8 teams.

- *2025-2026 season:* Now, in just the second year of our program, we currently sit in 4th place with two games remaining. The girls are starting to cause upsets and show their potential. Just imagine what we will achieve by year five! 😅
