The Cost of Trust

I gave my all
and still got played.
I trusted,
and my trust was betrayed.

I grew wary
without intent—
Put my trust at a mountain's peak
and you're just at the mount's descent.

From the misfortunes etched in my past
A lot I've learned—
Trust isn't freely given,
Trust is earned.

Forgive me if you're worthy,
and yet my trust feels delayed—
I trusted in the past
and my trust was betrayed.

Never Truly Gone

It's crazy to say,
But I don't want to move on.
I feel like if I let go—
That’s when you'll be truly gone.

You're still alive to me, in my heart
And in the memories we made.
That way, I blame the universe less
For the goodbye I never bade.

I'm broken that you didn’t live long enough;
I had a lot more love to show you.
But I’m also grateful I was one of the few
Who had the chance to know you.

First, my eyes did admire,
Then my heart caught on fire—
An inferno of desire,
Which, try as I might, I can't put out.

Everytime we get close,
My mouth an inch from your nose,
And you hit me with my daily dose—
I know it's you I can't live without.

My affection has grown too deep,
I think of you, even when I’m asleep.
You're the soul I want to keep,
Of that I have no doubt.

So, hand in hand, let's soar the skies,
And be honest among the lies.
Together, through lows and highs—
It's only you I think about.

My phone rings no more and that's okay.
You must be happy that things finally went your way.
"I still love you," you say—
If you love me but not show,
Have me guessing and not know,
Losing me is the price you'll have to pay.

We don't talk anymore and that's fine.
You must be on cloud nine.
Now that everything is going in line
With your initial plan
Try and stop me if you can,
I'm leaving — I don't want to waste my time.

I've hit rock bottom — thanks to you.
Your ecstasy must be flooding through
Now that we're done and through—
It's what you've always wanted,
That's why you took me for granted.
Well done — your dream came true.
