Geometry and architecture

The hotel in Dombay, photographed in 2009 by Frederick Schauban, reflects late Soviet-era alpine architecture, where modular prefabrication and structural austerity respond to economic and environmental demands. Reinforced concrete dominates the design, addressing the region’s severe climatic conditions while adhering to standardized mass production methods. Positioned within the dramatic Caucasus landscape, the structure negotiates between functional rigidity and site-specific challenges. Weathering and material fatigue reveal the evolving interaction between architecture and its surroundings.
