A Christian mission serving the community of Tonj, South Sudan through medical care, Community Health Evangelism (CHE), church planting, pastoral training and discipleship.
Join Michael on a tour through our inpatient ward to see what is happening. We are blessed by the unity in the body of Christ that works together to love others.
Witchcraft is quite popular in South Sudan. We see many mothers and children come to our hospital while wearing charms that have been prepared by a village witchdoctor.
These charms are small pouches that are worn around the neck or wrist. These pouches are filled with stones, sticks, bones or other items. Witchdoctors convince their customers that these charms will give protection, good health, prevent curses, stop bullets and many other things.
Our chaplains preach the gospel everyday to all of our inpatients. Today, they met a mother who had a witchdoctor’s charm on herself and her child.
The Chaplains talked with her about NOT placing her faith in witchdoctors but placing her FULL faith in Jesus. She heard the gospel and accepted Jesus as the greater healer.
The mother, even accepted for the Chaplain to cut these charms off and burn them in a fire. What an amazing heart. Instant surrender to her saviour.
“Submit therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
“Having cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7
Our Hospital receives many people that are anxious for a variety of reasons. This is the perfect opportunity to show them how much Jesus cares for them. We show them with our loving actions and we tell them with the truth of the gospel.

At Calvary Chapel Tonj, we heard Michael Herzinger (missionary) preach from Hebrews 12:12-17.
Some of his main points were:
- We do not wait for peace to come to us but we must pursue it.
- Seek peace with our enemies not just our friends. It is not an easy request!
- Repentance is linked to peace. We must turn away from bitterness and unforgiveness that causes us to desire conflict.
- While we were enemies with Jesus, he died to save us. We must follow this example set by Jesus.
- God cannot bless sin. Do not give up our eternal inheritance for short-term pleasure.
“Pursue peace with all people, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble…”
What did you learn from church?

A MISSIONARY’S REFLECTION: OPENING THE WOMB
Throughout scripture, there are so many examples of women who are heartbroken because they cannot conceive a child.
Examples are:
- Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 11:30)
- Isaac and Rebekkah (Genesis 25:21)
- Jacob and Rachel (Genesis 29:31)
- Hannah (1 Samuel 1:2)
- Manoah and his wife (Judges 13:2)
- Zechariah and Elizabeth (Luke 1:7)
So many times, we see God miraculously opening the womb and turning a women’s circumstances around to conceive a child.
We are still seeing this miracle today in South Sudan. In fact, this is one the most common miracles reported to our ministry.
An example is a woman who lives in Abiei-cok. She was unable to conceive for 8 years. Having children in this culture is so important. Therefore, inability to conceive can cause heartbreak and shame. On top of this struggle, this woman had 3 miscarriages.
So she placed her faith in Jesus. She came to Abiei-cok Calvary Chapel Church where she received prayer…and God moved. Shortly after she received prayer, she conceived! This week she was praising God with thankfulness in her heart because she had given birth to a baby boy. God hears our prayers.
This is just one example of so many miracles where a woman was unable to conceive, they came to one of our churches, received prayer and then conceived within weeks of receiving that prayer. God is wonderful!
“Then Hannah prayed and said,
‘My heart rejoices in the LORD’” 1 Samuel 2:1
“He has the barren woman live in the house. As a joyful mother of children. Praise the LORD!” Psalms 113:9
Join us in praising God for the miracles that he is doing in Tonj, South Sudan.

During a training session at Tabar CHE Center on 13 May 2026, Alekwet Nyuon Buoch shared her inspiring testimony. She had suffered for three years from a serious illness that caused severe pain in her back and joints, making it difficult for her to walk or carry out daily activities.
Alekwet said her life began to change after she committed herself to God and was baptized. She later joined the CHE program last year, where she continued to experience improvement in her health and well-being.
Today, Alekwet is grateful for her recovery and gives thanks to God for the new life and strength she enjoys. Her story is a powerful reminder of faith, hope, and transformation.

Mama Haganas Achol Tombe from Pan-Kou Centre shares how CHE transformed her life spiritually. Before joining CHE, she relied on witchcraft and traditional practices, but through spiritual teachings, she learned to trust God and seek His kingdom.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and now serves Him together with her family. Haganas says CHE also taught her how to pray and depend on God for her needs.
She thanks God and IDAT Ministry for bringing CHE to her community and helping her grow in faith. May God continue to bless and strengthen IDAT Ministry. 🙏❤️
