Alook Achol Turic from Yirol West finally got his artificial leg after 10 years of refusing to come to Rumbek.
Alook who lost his leg in traumatic accident, has been refusing to come to Rumbek. He said, “ I can only come to Rumbek if Chol Tong Mayay is in Rumbek, Chol Tong gave me 3-wheeler motorcycle and it was taken before reaching me. So, I’m not going to Rumbek “.
However, after a video call with ambassador Chol Tong, Alook puts a beautiful smile on his face and his dream of talking with ambassador Chol came to pass
Amb. Mayay, promised Alook to give him a new motorcycle and he has to go to Rumbek to get artificial leg.
On his part, Alook agreed to Amb. Chol’s promised and proceeded to Rumbek for a new leg.

Lakes state's governor on Wednesday met National Elections Commission in Rumbek.
Lakes governor Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor was briefed by National Elections Commission delegation in his office.
According to spokesperson George Lemi he explained that, their goals in Lakes State is to meet with stakeholders which includes the government, State High Elections Committee, Political Parties, Civil Society Organisations, Faith-Based Organisations, Women and Youth, and People with Disabilities and with possibilities to meet with the Rt. Hon. Speaker of the Reconstituted Lakes State Transitional Legislative Assembly to highlight them with information on pre-election activities.
However, governor Rin confirmed that his administration is prepared for elections and will be be happy to offer the State High Elections Committee facilities.
Mabor advised the National Elections Commission to map out registration locations and prioritize voter education and civic engagement.
Governor Rin concluded that "As the nation prepared for elections, any political parties that want to hold meetings or campaigns in Lakes State is free".

Government orders indefinite closure of schools amid heatwave crisis
In a move to safeguard the well-being of students, the government has announced the indefinite closure of schools due to the ongoing heatwave. The Ministries of Health and General Education and Instruction issued a joint statement today, declaring that all schools will be closed from Monday, March 18, 2024, until further notice.
Amid rising temperatures and concerns over heat-related health risks, parents are strongly urged to prevent their children from engaging in outdoor activities. The closure aims to protect students from the scorching heat and minimize the risk of heat-related illnesses.

US DOLLAR REACHES 150,500 SSP AS SOUTH SUDAN'S CURRENCY DEPRECIATES MORE DRAMATICALLY.
Date: February 18, 2024 (afternoon updates).
JUBA: South Sudanese dealers in Black Market, Juba, have informed Journalists that the US dollar and South Sudanese pound (SSP) exchange rate hit an all new record high, with a hundred dollars reaching 150,500 SSP, a spike from 125,500 on Friday ( black Market rate) and the central bank rate of 123,998.24 SSP yesterday.
Prices for essential goods have increased as a result of the South Sudanese Pound's ongoing decline in value relative to other currencies.
According to one dealer, "as of this afternoon, one hundred US dollars is 150,500 SSP South Sudanese pounds, and there is nothing we can do about it ".
The citizens have descended into a state of panic, since it is anticipated that the dollar rate would rise in the not so distant hours.

Augustino Ting Mayai is the Director of Research at the Sudd Institute and an Assistant Professor at the University of Juba’s School of Public Service. He holds a PhD in Sociology, with concentrations on demography and development from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
