Did you know that...

The EFFIRA is the longest celebrated cultural event in South Sudan!

The Otuho Tribe in eastern equatoria has two kingdom called Maya and Hujang. On 30th May 2021, Maya kingdom celebrated it's Efira, an event that celebrates transfer of power to a new generation which happens every 22 years. The name given to new generation of men is Akara while the females is Obiji Twajin.

Efira is held on a Sacred ground on the Hoding Mt. in Iloli village where all villages of the Otuho under the Maya Kingdom converge.

It is said this event brings most South Sudanese specially the Otuho people and tourists from across the globe. Unfortunately Covid19 interrupted the turn up for this year especially for people out of South Sudan.

The last Efira was celebrated on 30th May 1999.

Hujang will celebrate it's Efira in September 2021.
