We are thrilled to share my recent participation in the Conference on Inclusive Public Participation in Constitution-Making Processes, with a special focus on the role of women. This event brought together experts, advocates, and leaders from across the region to discuss strategies for ensuring that constitutional processes are inclusive, equitable, and representative of all segments of society, especially women.
Key Insights and Takeaways
1. Women as Agents of Change
One of the key themes of the conference was the acknowledgment of women as essential agents of change in constitution-making. While constitutions serve as blueprints for governance, their legitimacy hinges on the inclusion of diverse voices. Womenâs active involvement not only ensures that gender-sensitive issues are addressed but also strengthens the democratic fabric of society.
2. Addressing Barriers to Participation
Discussions highlighted the barriers women face in participating in constitution-making processes, including cultural norms, systemic inequalities, and limited access to leadership roles. Solutions proposed included targeted advocacy, capacity-building programs, and creating platforms for grassroots women to voice their concerns.
3. Learning from Best Practices
Examples from other countries demonstrated the transformative impact of womenâs involvement. Case studies showed how womenâs advocacy led to constitutional provisions on gender equality, protection from gender-based violence, and increased political representation.

Why This Matters to Us
As members of this group, we share a collective mission to empower women. Constitution-making processes are foundational moments that shape the future of nations. Women must be at the table, not just as participants but as key decision-makers.
I hope to apply the lessons learned from this conference to our shared efforts. Together, we can champion the inclusion of women in critical spaces and amplify their voices in all areas of governance and leadership.
Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to discussing how we can integrate these ideas into our ongoing work. Let us keep striving to empower each other and drive positive change.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence is a global campaign that reminds us of the urgency to take action, stand up, and speak out against violence in all its forms.
As we mark this period, letâs commit to creating safer spaces, supporting survivors, and amplifying the voices of those who are often silenced.
Change starts with us together, we can build a future where every woman and girl in South Sudan and beyond lives free from fear and harm. Letâs turn awareness into action and advocacy into progress.
